At the Beijing Auto Show, the Volkswagen ID.Code concept has just made its debut, signaling a bold departure in design for forthcoming electric models. With the unveiling of the ID.Code concept, Volkswagen showcases a revolutionary shift in its approach to electric vehicle design.

As stated by Motor1.com, Volkswagen emphasizes several times in its announcement that the ID.Code is specifically tailored as a concept car intended for the Chinese market. Although crafted through a collaboration between Volkswagen's European and Chinese teams, there's no suggestion that a similar SUV will find its way to markets beyond China.

Nevertheless, the ID.Code presents an intriguing concept, representing a significant departure from Volkswagen's current SUV and electric ID. brand styling. According to Autocar India, the SUV-coupe concept showcases a sleek new design language specifically crafted for cars destined for the Chinese market.

This preview of a new range of electric vehicles is the result of collaborations between Volkswagen and its various joint venture partners in China, as stated by Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schafer.

According to AutoBlog, the aim was to create a design that exudes both speed and futurism, and the end result certainly lives up to this vision. With its sleek and dynamic greenhouse, the SUV-coupe concept captures attention effortlessly. Notably, its D-pillar pays homage to the iconic C-pillar design of the original Golf.

The front fascia of the ID.Code is intentionally crafted to convey a welcoming and friendly demeanor, almost appearing to smile at its surroundings. Its innovative lighting system, featuring interactive "3D eyes," engages with the environment, offering a unique interaction.

As the driver approaches, the ID.Code greets with friendly audio cues and provides localized weather updates for the upcoming hours. During autonomous driving, both the front and rear light bars serve as communication tools, enhancing safety by engaging with other road users.

Moreover, the "Smart Windows" function as semi-transparent displays. As you near the vehicle, an avatar appears on the exterior, offering information and a greeting. For instance, if rain is expected, the avatar prompts you to take an umbrella before entering the vehicle.

This avatar also serves as an internal projection from the center console, enabling interaction and conversation inside the car. Autocar India further highlights that the ID.Code is built on an unspecified platform architecture designed to support both single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor four-wheel drive configurations.

It's also engineered to accommodate various battery capacities and ranges. Positioned as the new flagship model, the ID.Code is set to lead Volkswagen's recently unveiled ID UX Chinese EV family into the future.

Motor1.com also reported about the Light Cloud which comprises 967 LEDs, capable of forming U-shaped "eyes" that create the illusion of gazing in different directions. Working in tandem with the Light Screen, which is less conspicuous, it occupies the smiling segment below the Light Cloud, replacing the traditional grille area. Employing a transparent paint, the Light Screen seamlessly integrates with the vehicle's facade when inactive. However, when activated, it serves as a versatile display, presenting a range of information from weather forecasts to seasonal visuals like blooming cherry blossoms in spring. Additionally, it can express appreciation, such as displaying a heart symbol when another vehicle yields to allow a left turn.
