Cadillac is issuing a recall for 74 XT5s manufactured from February 16 to 26, 2024. These vehicles could have been installed with a damaged airbag supplied by Joyson Safety Systems. Potentially impacted cars might experience a situation where the driver-side front airbag could develop a tear or minor hole during deployment, leading to compromised airbag effectiveness in case of a collision.

Airbag Tear: Safety Concern Rises Over 2024 Cadillac XT5

General Motors aims to recall the vehicles preemptively to prevent customer impact. As reported by CarScoops, while crashes are inherently alarming, the prospect of an essential safety component like the airbag failing intensifies the fear of a collision. This precise scenario is what could potentially transpire in a limited number of Cadillac XT5s.

GM is initiating a recall for 74 Cadillac XT5s manufactured from February 16 to February 26, 2024, as they might have been fitted with a defective airbag. The car manufacturer was alerted to this problem on February 23 by its supplier, Joyson Safety Systems, conveying concerning details.

As per CarScoops, the airbag maker identified a tear in the cushion during a quality test, ceasing part shipments for further scrutiny. Subsequently, it was found that a modification in design within a brief production window could result in minor punctures or tears in the airbag, diminishing its performance upon deployment.

GM has chosen to recall and halt the sale of 74 Cadillac XT5s that were installed with driver-side airbags from a defective batch. In the event of a collision, if the component rips, it may heighten the likelihood of the vehicle occupant sustaining an injury.

GM's Solution

About Cadillac XT5

As reported by Car and Driver, Cadillac has stated that 2024 will be the last year for the XT5 model, which only receives minor exterior update. Emerald Lake Metallic and Midnight Sky Metallic are the new exterior color possibilities. The Sport variation comes with three look packages -Blue accent, Bronze accent, and Red accent.

Nevertheless, the XT5 will continue its presence in China, where it maintains its status as a top-selling model with substantial sales volume. The Chinese version of the XT5 is set to undergo significant updates.

In the XT5, passenger space is deemed adequate; however, the overall accommodations do not meet the expected luxury standards of a modern Cadillac. While the cabin materials may seem upscale individually, the overall design lacks cohesion. The interior layout is praised for its effectiveness, offering a comfortable driving position.

Notably, the XT5 excels in practicality, boasting above-average cargo space, numerous storage bins for smaller items, and an easily foldable rear seat, establishing it as a leader in cargo capacity. With the rear seat in position, the XT5's cargo hold accommodated an impressive 10 carry-on cases, which increased to 24 carry-ons once the seats were folded.
