The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently announced a recall affecting a substantial number of vehicles, totaling over 159,000, in response to various safety-related issues. In a series of recalls issued by the NHTSA last week, one notable recall involved the retrieval of more than 139,000 Ford vehicles. This recall was issued owing to a significant oil pressure issue that could increase road accident risk.

Massive Recall Alert: Ford,Volvo, Lucid

Besides the Ford recall, Volvo SUVs received recalls for turn signal system issues. Furthermore, the Lucid Air, a prominent electric vehicle, was also affected by a recall. The recall involved a heater-related concern that needed quick correction. The NHTSA's prompt response to safety concerns helps Ford, Volvo, Lucid, and other owners to experience comfortable and safe driving experience.

According to reports, Volvo initiated a recall affecting 17,409 of its 2024 XC40 SUVs due to a flaw in the Central Electronic Module (CEM) software. The problematic CEM software, which has the potential to affect the functioning of the exterior turn signals, will be rectified by authorized dealers through a cost-free over-the-air update. These figures are among the 159,000 vehicles under recall.

Meanwhile, Ford's share in the 159,000 vehicles recall are 26,042 Ford Focus vehicles manufactured between 2016 and 2018. Another is the 113,689 Ford EcoSport SUVs produced from 2018 to 2022. The reason for this recall is related to concerns with the oil pump drive belt.

Lastly, Lucid has issued a recall for 2,042 of its 2022/23 Air electric sedans due to a potential malfunction in the high-voltage coolant heater, which may result in inadequate windshield defrosting.

Ford, Volvo, Lucid's Response

Ford dealerships will provide a complimentary replacement of the oil pump tensioner assembly and the oil pump drive belt. As reported in USA Today, Ford's report submitted to the NHTSA stated that a decrease in oil pressure has the potential to lead to engine stalling and a loss of power brake assistance, thereby elevating the likelihood of an accident.

Safety notifications are scheduled to be dispatched in February to inform affected vehicle owners about this recall and its corrective actions. Meanwhile, Lucid plans to enhance the software to detect any potential high-voltage coolant heater (HVCH) failures and will alert the driver accordingly. In cases where the HVCH does fail, it will be replaced at no cost. Notification letters for owners are scheduled to be sent out on March 8, 2024.

According to reports, the Central Electronic Module (CEM) software will be refreshed either by an authorized dealer or via an over-the-air (OTA) update, and this service will be provided without any cost to the owners. Volvo will send notifications to vehicle owners are anticipated to be sent out on February 28, 2024.
