The automotive industry is anticipating exciting releases in 2024. This is particularly true in the diesel and SUV segments. Diesel engines have been associated with higher emissions. Thus, they are subject to strict environmental regulations and standards.
Manufacturers have been forced to innovate and develop cleaner diesel engine technologies in an effort to meet these standards. While still providing the efficiency and torque that come with diesel powertrains.
2024 New Diesel Cars, SUVs Coming to the Market
According to an article on Rush Lane, Mahindra stands out with the highest diesel-centric vehicle lineup. It is closely followed by Tata, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, and MG. Notably, every Mahindra internal combustion engine (ICE) model offers a diesel engine variant, except for the KUV100. Interestingly, despite this, the KUV100 remains featured on the company's website, albeit without the option to schedule a test drive.
Together with other OEMs that presently only have gasoline-powered lineups, Skoda is apparently looking at the prospect of bringing diesel engines back into their lineup.
1. Tata Curvv - Compact SUV
The official Tata Motors website states that the CURVV concept redefines the SUV market. It blends ruggedness and robustness with the sleek and athletic profile of a coupe. The next Curvv compact SUV will go on sale with both an electric and diesel drivetrain.
A turbocharged gasoline alternative to follow later. With its blend of SUV practicality and coupe-style looks, this car has the potential to become the most enticing and fashionable option in its class, attracting the interest and respect of potential owners.
2. Mahindra XUV300 Upgrade
Mahindra, a leader in Indian diesel vehicle market, is about to launch a number of new models. The next XUV300 facelift, which takes design ideas from the future BE series, is set to make a big impression in the sub-4m SUV market.
The 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine will continue to produce 115 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque when linked to the current 6-speed manual and 6-speed automated manual transmissions (AMT). There have also been rumors that an automatic gearbox from Aisin will be included. As part of the car's extensive redesign, expect notable cosmetic and interior improvements.
3. Mahindra Thar 5-Door (Armada)
One of the most eagerly awaited releases from Mahindra, this vehicle is designed to captivate lifestyle enthusiasts. The introduction of a 5-door model promises to enhance practicality and significantly elevate its road presence.

While the 2.2L turbo diesel engine will remain at the heart of the vehicle, the larger dimensions could entail a distinct engine tuning compared to the 3-door model's 130 bhp and 300 Nm output. Expect a subtle exterior refresh for the Thar 5-door, potentially setting the stage for a facelift across the 3-door model as well. Internally, Mahindra is set to integrate an array of advanced technologies and features, surpassing the offerings of the 3-door model.
5. Skoda Superb
The fourth generation Skoda Superb is set to return to the Asian subcontinent. Skoda wants to bring the Superb back to India. It plans to provide it with a diesel engine option by using the CBU route. It is anticipated that the launch will occur in late 2024.
6. Hyundai Alcazar
Anticipated to mirror the fresh styling and equipment enhancements introduced in the Creta facelift, we can foresee similar updates making their way to the Alcazar facelift. It's possible that Hyundai will reserve a slightly unique front-end design for the Alcazar, as was evident in the current Alcazar and pre-facelift Creta models.
Notable changes include the advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite, the dual-screen dashboard layout, and other feature enhancements. With a choice of a 6MT or 6AT transmission, the 1.5L diesel engine is expected to maintain its output of 113 horsepower and 250 Nm.
7. Force Gurkha 5-Door
The eagerly awaited launch of the Gurkha 5-Door is still pending, with ongoing testing activities indicating progress. Positioned to compete with the Mahindra Thar 5-Door and Maruti Jimny 5-Door, the Gurkha boasts exceptional capabilities in extreme off-road environments, including front and rear mechanically locking differentials.
All of Force Motors' personal and commercial vehicles are powered by a single 2.6L diesel engine. The Gurkha 5-Door is expected to have more powerful tune than the 3-Door variant, which currently produces 350 Nm of torque and 115 horsepower.
8. MG Gloster
Out of all the automobiles on the list, the MG Gloster is the largest and most opulent. The Toyota Fortuner and Isuzu MUX are the Gloster's direct rivals.
The Gloster Facelift, essentially a modified LDV D90, is expected to be significantly larger and sport a new front-end design. The popular 2.0L diesel engine, which is available in two versions-a single turbo version with 158 horsepower and 373 torque, or a twin turbo version with 213 horsepower and 478 torque-will power the Gloster.
