2025 RS1,R1T with LFP Battery and Heat Pump Soon

Rivian is undergoing a significant transformation in its electric vehicle range to enhance production efficiency and introduce fresh offerings to its clientele. Speculations suggest that the 2025 R1S and R1T models could begin shipping later this year, with an official unveiling anticipated during the Investor Day event on June 27.

As per CarScoops, a detailed certification document for the 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S in the U.S. has surfaced online, uncovering numerous modifications implemented on the automaker's primary models. The upcoming 2025 Rivian vehicles will come equipped with a standard heat pump.

Despite Rivian's adoption of Tesla Supercharger compatibility, the company persists in utilizing the CCS plug. Actual driving range statistics will remain undisclosed until the EPA conducts tests on the 2025 Rivian R1T and R1S editions.

Nevertheless, as per the document, Rivian asserts that the R1S and R1T Dual Standard variants equipped with 20-inch wheels have the capacity to cover 380 miles (612 km) in urban settings and 322 miles (518 km) on highways.

As per EVs InsideEVs Global's report, another notable enhancement aimed at improving efficiency is the incorporation of a heat pump. Both features were identified in a leaked certification document shared on the Rivian Owners forum.

The 64-page report additionally outlines the EPA-projected range estimates for the updated battery configurations and wheel options.

More Details

As reported by Autoevolution, numerous speculations have circulated regarding the enhancements accompanying the mid-life update, but official documents have now emerged to offer clarification.

A key highlight of the R1 refresh is Rivian's target for profitability by the conclusion of 2024. This objective necessitates streamlining production processes and enhancing the supply chain to reduce manufacturing expenses by half.

The updated models will feature a significantly improved architecture to bolster manufacturing efficiency. Furthermore, the production line at Rivian's facility in Normal, Illinois, underwent restructuring earlier this spring following a temporary pause in production.

Additionally, a significant enhancement in efficiency is attributed to the introduction of a specially crafted heat pump. This innovation aims to enhance heating efficiency by capturing excess heat from the drivetrain components.

Rivian has also incorporated a specialized heater for the high-voltage battery to improve pre-conditioning and facilitate faster charging in colder conditions. Currently, the R1 models utilize residual motor heat to warm the battery.

The new heat pump bears similarities to Tesla's octovalve, as it combines valves, sensors, heat exchangers, and the refrigerant bottle into a unified unit. Additionally, Rivian has repositioned the compressor, leading to reduced noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) levels in their vehicles.
