Another car will soon be retired from the production line. Reports suggest that BMW XM will be the next to sign off for this popular car brand.

2028: BMW XM Last Production

BMW will also have its share of models that will be cut from production. Next for BMW is its XM model. There will be no more BMW XM by 2028.

According to a report by The Drive, this model only has about four years before it dies. The Drive also revealed that a supposed successor, an EV, sees an indefinite future. This replacement was put on hold.

Despite being relatively young in the market, the BMW XM faces early uncertainty about its future. Munich initially celebrated the XM's launch for its M Division heritage, aligning it with the esteemed BMW M1 legacy.

On the other hand, BMW aimed to debut an updated version of the XM featuring a transition from a plug-in hybrid system to a fully electric powertrain. This advanced SUV integrates a potent 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor seamlessly incorporated into its eight-speed automatic gearbox.

This, produced an impressive output of 738 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque in the range-topping XM Label Red variant.

Reported by Jalopnik, BMW initially intended to transition from the plug-in hybrid XM to an all-electric successor. However, recent developments indicate a shift in plans, with the discontinuation of the XM slated for November 2028.

The reasons behind this change remain undisclosed, but speculations point to potentially underwhelming sales figures compared to BMW's expectations. The higher price point relative to the X5 M Competition, coupled with slightly slower acceleration times unless opting for the pricier XM Label Red variant at $185,000 may have influenced this decision.

With advanced technologies and connectivity features enhancing the driving experience, the XM caters to individuals seeking a harmonious fusion of power and elegance, setting it apart from other models in the BMW lineup.

According to insights from a Car and Driver review, the 2025 BMW XM now includes the Highway Assistant feature, a component of BMW's comprehensive Driving Assistance Professional Package, as a standard offering across all 2025 XM variants.

This technology enables hands-free highway driving up to 85 mph and incorporates an innovative eye-activated lane change function. Pricing for the 2025 BMW XM ranges from $160,175 to $186,175 based on the chosen trim level and optional features.

Car and Driver added that the BMW XM integrates a familiar twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 engine, which, when combined with an electric motor and battery pack, generates an impressive output of 644 horsepower.

This model boasts a coil-spring suspension setup enhanced by adaptive dampers and active anti-roll bars. While the ride may not consistently deliver the desired level of comfort and composure, switching to the comfort driving mode provides acceptable absorption of road imperfections. Transitioning to sport mode enhances the XM's responsiveness in handling, albeit at the expense of a firmer ride quality.
