Volkswagen presents a sporty version of its big electric MVP. This model, the ID. Buzz GTX is equipped with four-wheel drive and 335bhp.

ID. Buzz GTX

This sporty Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX faces stiff competition in the market. As reported by Autocar, the MPV marks the latest addition to Volkswagen's electric lineup to undergo the GTX transformation, joining the ranks of the ID 4, ID 5 SUVs, and ID 7 saloon/estate. This upgrade brings a significant power increase, an extra motor for all-wheel drive, and a series of design modifications to set the VW ID Buzz apart in the competitive landscape of electric MPVs.

Part of the extensive 2024 revamp for the Buzz model range involves introducing more significant long-wheelbase variants alongside the standard short-wheelbase Buzz, enhancing the lineup's versatility and catering to diverse customer preferences.

In the European market, the Buzz GTX is offered in standard and extended wheelbase configurations; however, customers in the UK will have access exclusively to the standard variant.

Buyers can choose between a 79kWh battery option or upgrade to a larger 86kWh capacity for an extended driving range. Volkswagen has not disclosed specific range estimates yet, but charging capabilities peak at 180kW for the smaller battery and 200kW for the larger one.

The company asserts that both battery sizes can achieve a rapid charge from 20% to 80% within just 20 minutes. Autoevolution's report revealed that the standard wheelbase variant accommodates up to five occupants with a rear bench seating configuration. Alternatively, customers can opt for a six-seater layout featuring individual seats in the second and third rows.

This premium configuration includes the mentioned enhancements and power increase and introduces extra features exclusive to this model range, elevating the overall driving experience.

Verdict: Review on Volkswagen ID. Buzz-GTX

Car discussed the best and not-so-good things about Volkswagen ID. Buzz-GTX. When comparing the entry-level Volkswagen ID.4 Match to the top-tier ID.4 GTX, there exists a significant price gap of approximately £11,500.

Extrapolating this price difference to the ID. Buzz lineup, one might find themselves contemplating a price tag exceeding £70,000 for a fully loaded electric van. This pricing strategy may raise concerns regarding the perceived value proposition of the vehicle at such a premium price point.

The advantages of the model include enhanced speed compared to the regular Buzz, improved seat comfort, and supplementary features for an enriched driving experience.

On the downside, the vehicle may not offer the same handling capabilities as a Transit, and the shorter three-row SWB variants might come with limited trunk space, potentially posing a challenge for storage needs.

Inside the cabin, significant updates have been implemented. The VW ID Buzz GTX now features new sports seats, abundant black upholstery, and a notably larger 12.9-inch infotainment display, an upgrade from the previous 12.0-inch screen. This enhanced screen also boasts a quicker processor, resulting in a more responsive touchscreen interface for improved user experience.

Setting it apart from the standard Buzz model, which is equipped with a single rear motor, the GTX variant impressively houses an engine on each axle. These motors generate an impressive output of 335bhp and 413 lb-ft of torque, positioning the GTX as Volkswagen's most potent Microbus to date.
