Tesla has stopped orders for its lowest-priced Cybertruck as it opts to offer a new, expensive variant.
The multinational automotive company's cheapest Cybertruck is priced at $61,000, but the new unit will cost around $100,000, as per Reuters.
The change in its lineup has led the company to increase monitoring of the Cybertruck's demand and supply. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has also put resources into the truck's production, targeting to make 200,000 units per year.
In October, Musk stated that one million reservations were made for the truck and that customers were anticipating less expensive releases. However, Sam Abuelsamid, an analyst from Guidehouse Insights, told Reuters that the "demand is a lot less than a million trucks."
In July, Tesla's Cybertrucks sold around 4,800 units despite having a selling price above $100,000. A Cox Automotive spokesperson shared in a recent email to the outlet that the Cybertrucks already "sold more than 16,000 so far, but a sustained high volume at that price point would be a challenge."

The deliveries for the Cybertrucks started in November 2023, ultimately making the offer come true after several delays and difficulties in its production. In 2019, Musk shared an estimate of the truck's market value, which was initially $40,000.
The vehicle features an unconventional, trapezoidal exterior design inspired by "Blade Runner." The Cybertruck is also advertised to have the endurance to travel 500 miles or above just from a single charge.
The Cybertruck's $61,000 version is no longer available on Tesla's website. The unit was originally offered with a 250-mile range and a delivery date aimed at 2025.
On the other hand, the limited dual-motor variant Foundation, priced at $99,990, contains a 318-mile range and is slated for release this August. The automaker's tri-motor Foundation Cyberbeast, which costs $119,990, holds a 301-mile range and an October release date.
Abuelsamid added that Tesla is currently swamped with its two-motor and three-motor truck inventory.
The upcoming $100,000 variant will become available this August, according to Tesla's official website.
