In an exciting update, Volkswagen has revealed its intention to unveil a cutting-edge performance model at the upcoming annual press conference scheduled for March 21. Accompanying this announcement is a teaser image shared on LinkedIn, hinting at the arrival of a potent iteration of Volkswagen's renowned electric van, the ID. Buzz GTX, creating anticipation for what promises to be a remarkable unveiling.

Volkswagen's ID. Buzz GTX Coming Soon

As per the report from DaxStreet, Volkswagen Commercial has provided a glimpse of this dynamic rendition of the iconic van ahead of its highly anticipated debut. While Volkswagen Australia has shown keen interest in bringing the model to market, awaiting the official confirmation adds to the suspense.

Drawing inspiration from the electric ID.4 GTX and the brand's GTI range, the ID. Buzz GTX showcases design elements such as a flat-bottom steering wheel, interior red accents, distinctive fog lights, wheels, and exterior trim finishes.

The anticipation surrounding the inclusion of adaptive dampers and a lowered suspension further amplifies its sporty character. Beyond its eye-catching aesthetics, the ID. Buzz GTX is set to impress with a 250kW dual-motor drivetrain, delivering an impressive 30kW more power compared to the ID.4 GTX SUV.

Apart from the disclosed unveiling date and a tantalizing teaser image, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles division has remained tight-lipped about further details. While Volkswagen has kept the specifics of the ID. Buzz GTX under wraps, the confirmation of its 335-horsepower output, courtesy of a dual-motor all-wheel drive system akin to the ID.7 GTX, has created buzz.

Anticipation is building as experts at Motor1.com anticipate additional enhancements, including a firmer suspension, improved brakes, larger wheels, and a more athletic interior, promising an all-around exhilarating experience.

The ID.Buzz GTX has been under close scrutiny by Motor1.com for several months. Their team of photographers captured an all-white test mule, believed to be a prototype for the vehicle, on the road last summer. Shortly thereafter, it was observed undertaking laps at the Nürburgring during an industry test pool session. Hence, the timing of this unveiling appears logical in light of these developments.

At present, it remains uncertain whether Volkswagen intends to introduce this high-performance variant of the ID.Buzz to the United States. The prospects seem unclear, especially considering that neither the ID.3 GTX nor the ID.7 GTX tourer are scheduled for release in the US market, and the standard ID.Buzz is yet to hit the American market.

Boasting an 85kWh battery and a more powerful 210kW rear electric motor, the vehicle promises heightened performance. While the arrival of the ID.Buzz SWB and ID.Buzz Cargo is anticipated in Australia by December 2024, the long-wheelbase model is earmarked for launch in the first half of 2025.

VW's ID.Buzz Lineup

In 2022, Volkswagen's US Media Site unveiled the ID.Buzz lineup. According to the website, the ID.Buzz lineup represents a fresh approach to sustainable mobility. The initial versions set to launch in the European market will feature an 82 kWh battery powering a 201-hp electric motor, delivering a maximum torque of 229 lb-ft.

Both iterations within the ID.Buzz series pay homage to the iconic Microbus design, prioritizing maximum space within a compact footprint.

The commitment to sustainability is evident through the use of non-animal materials as a replacement for leather, the integration of recycled materials, and the utilization of organically-based paint. European models are slated for release this year, while a long-wheelbase passenger model is scheduled to make its debut in the North American market in 2023, with sales expected to commence in 2024.
