One of the latest news in the truck market is the 2025 Ram 1500 Hurricane. With its 3.0-liter turbocharged Hurricane I6 engine, this pickup welcomes modernity, So car aficionados may bid adieu to the classic Hemi. In contrast to the past, the emphasis is now on performance and efficiency. With the EPA unveiling the official fuel economy data for the upcoming lineup, including the Pentastar V6 mild-hybrid and two Hurricane I6 options, the spotlight shines on the evolution of Ram's iconic truck series

Here Comes 2025 Ram 1500 Hurricane

Autoblog shared that the full-size 2025 Ram 1500's Hurricane engine runs remarkably well. Not the most fuel-efficient truck is the Hurricane. However, its numbers are comparable to those of comparable gas engines.

Also unsurprising is the fact that the two-wheel-drive version of the standard 420-horsepower Hurricane Ram is the most efficient, returning 19 mpg city, 25 highway and 21 combined. That's an increase of 1 mpg across the board compared to the most efficient (and also two-wheel-drive) Hemi Ram. Adding four-wheel-drive drops the Hurricane Ram to 17 city, 24 highway and 19 combined.

According to CarBuzz, the latest Ram 1500 is a versatile truck suitable for individuals across various professions, and notably excels without the inclusion of a V8 engine option. Additionally, CarBuzz has provided insights indicating the possibility of hybridizing the Hurricane engine. Sources have revealed to CarBuzz the likelihood of witnessing a hybrid iteration of the Hurricane engine in the upcoming Dodge Charger.

This hybrid setup, compatible with the high-output motor, has the capacity to enhance power outputs by up to 150 horsepower, presenting a convenient plug-and-play solution. The feasibility of this development stems from the existing availability of all the necessary components.

Integrating a hybrid transmission with the Hurricane engine presents an opportunity to not only enhance performance but also elevate efficiency levels. This strategic move could be a compelling option for Ram, especially if consumers express a preference for traditional combustion power over the range-extender electric powertrain featured in the Ramcharger.

The potential benefits of this hybrid setup extend to both performance enthusiasts and those valuing fuel efficiency.

What's More

As reported by The Drive, Ram has turned to its latest 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged Hurricane inline-six engine to take over the duties previously handled by the popular 5.7-liter Hemi across various applications. In many instances, this transition proves to be a fitting substitution, offering increased power and performance compared to the traditional V8 engine.

Naturally, the high-performance variant of the Hurricane I6 showcases its thirstiness, boasting 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque, yielding fuel efficiency figures of 15 mpg in the city, 21 mpg on the highway, and 17 mpg combined. In comparison, the older 5.7-liter V8 engine achieved 18 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg combined, surpassing the new engine in overall efficiency metrics.

As per VehicleFreak, Ram Trucks is a subsidiary of Stellantis. It currently operates two sites in America, one each in Europe and South America. There is a direct link between the Dodge Brothers Company and Ram vehicles.
