In a bold move, Ford shakes up its truck roster with the all-new 2024 Ford Ranger. Having been available worldwide since 2022, the Ranger receives a significant refresh for the '24 model year while retaining its core identity. Priced at $34,265, the 2024 Ford Ranger marks a notable increase from the previous year's starting price of $28,495.

Autoweek claims that major improvements including a 10.1-inch media display, a standard SuperCrew interior, and a greater selection of driver assistance technologies are included in this price rise. The 2024 Ford Ranger's configuration options have been simplified, which is one of the most obvious modifications.

Ford has streamlined the choices available for the '24 model year, offering only one box and one bed selection. While this may disappoint customers who enjoy a variety of truck configurations, it streamlines the ordering process for those looking to purchase their trucks efficiently.

The exclusive cabin choice is the spacious SuperCrew, featuring a four-door layout capable of seating up to five passengers comfortably. Accompanying this cabin is a five-foot bed, now widened to 48.2 inches between the wheel wells, providing ample space for cargo and enhancing practicality for various hauling needs.

MotorTrend reports that while the turbo-diesel option available in other regions is absent in the American market, the 2024 Ford Ranger presents two gasoline engine choices, both compatible with either two- or four-wheel drive configurations. Enhancements in stability have been achieved compared to the previous model, thanks to a redesigned frame that increases the Ranger's track width by two inches and extends its wheelbase to 128.0 inches, marking a two-inch growth.

For the 2024 model year, the Ranger simplifies its offerings to include only one bed length and cab configuration: the SuperCrew paired with a five-foot bed for optimal versatility and practicality.

Tech, Features

MotorTrend also shares insights into additional features and technology integrated into the 2024 Ford Ranger. The new model boasts innovative Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Trailer Reverse Guidance systems, setting it apart in its segment. These cutting-edge features aim to assist drivers, regardless of their towing experience, in maneuvering trailers with ease, especially in challenging scenarios like backing up into tight spaces.

With these systems in place, controlling the trailer becomes a hands-free operation within the Ranger, enhancing convenience and safety. While MotorTrend tested the setup by reversing a trailer carrying ATVs in a controlled environment, they express confidence in the system's capability to aid even the least coordinated driver in handling tricky trailer maneuvers. It's noteworthy that unlike the F-150, the Ranger does not offer Pro Hitch Assist for hitching purposes.

Camera, Displays

The Ranger provides distinctive camera perspectives of the entire towing process, offering a comprehensive view that includes a top-down 360-degree angle, a split-screen feature showing the surroundings of both the truck and trailer, visual lines indicating the trailer's trajectory, and additional visual aids. Moreover, the central display graphic alerts the driver to potential jackknife scenarios, prompting corrective action such as moving forward to realign the trailer and the vehicle. By utilizing the complimentary Ford Pass app, users can conveniently conduct pre-trip trailer light inspections using their mobile device, eliminating the need for multiple trips between the cab and the trailer corners.
