BYD and Mercedes' sub-brand Denza are gearing up for the imminent arrival of their latest electric vehicle in the U.S. Marketed as the Z9 GT, this sizable wagon aims to make a splash, boasting dimensions that rival the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo and Taycan Sport Turismo.

With the Beijing Motor Show looming on the horizon, Denza has chosen to tease its forthcoming model by showcasing it in Europe, sparking anticipation among electric car enthusiasts worldwide.

Denza Z9 GT, Mercedes and BYD Latest Offering

As reported by Autoweek, years ago, BYD made a strategic move by recruiting a design executive from one of Porsche's affiliated brands. This decision is evident in the striking resemblance of the Denza Z9 GT to notable Porsche models such as the Taycan Sport Turismo and the Panamera longroof.

Once the vibrant neon camouflage is shed, the similarities become even more apparent, potentially leading to mistaken identities among casual observers. Further elaborating, the report clarifies that the visual parallels between the Denza Z9 GT and Porsche's designs are not a matter of blatant imitation.

Wolfgang Egger, the former design head at Audi and current overseer of BYD's design department since 2017, spearheaded the development of the Z9 GT's exterior. This connection is significant considering Audi's affiliation with the Volkswagen Group, which also encompasses Porsche.

Therefore, the shared design language between these vehicles is a testament to Egger's influence of design philosophies within the automotive conglomerate. As reported by CarScoops, although specific acceleration data for the vehicle has not been disclosed by the company, it has stated that the car reaches a maximum speed of 240 km/h (149 mph).

Similar to numerous other electric vehicles on the market, the Z9 GT exhibits considerable weight, with a total mass of 6,338 lbs / 2,875 kg. The report provided additional insights into the anticipated features of the Denza Z9 GT. Visually striking, the Z9 GT boasts a dramatic design.

At the front, angular headlights complement a sculpted bumper adorned with sizable air intakes, while pronounced creases traverse the hood, adding to its assertive stance. This bold aesthetic extends to the sides, where aerodynamically optimized wheels, flush door handles, and prominent creases contribute to its dynamic profile.

Setting it apart from other Shooting Brake models, the rear of the Z9 GT features distinctive LED taillights, a roof spoiler, and a deployable secondary spoiler integrated into the decklid, enhancing both style and functionality.

More About Denza

According to CarBuzz, Denza was initially established in 2010 through a collaborative effort between BYD and Mercedes, operating as a 50/50 joint venture. However, by 2022, Mercedes significantly reduced its stake in the partnership, leaving only a 10% ownership share.

This strategic shift reflects changes in the companies' priorities and strategic directions over time. Furthermore, in compliance with Chinese regulations, all vehicle models released in China are required to disclose specific performance metrics, dimensional specifications, and visual characteristics to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

This transparency ensures adherence to national standards and facilitates consumer awareness of key product attributes.
