The entry-level model from Lucid, the Air Pure RWD, is an amazing luxury electric vehicle that oozes creativity and flair. The Lucid Air's cabin has a modernist mood that prioritizes practicality over all else and combines minimalist aesthetics with user-centric design principles.

As SlashGear's review of the Lucid Air Pure  from 2023 shows, it is one of the more reasonably priced models in the Lucid portfolio. With a rear-wheel drive option priced at $77,400 plus $1,575 destination, it provides accessibility without sacrificing luxury. The cost of upgrading to all-wheel drive is an extra $5,000.

In the review, it's noted that Lucid, predictably, made adjustments to the Air to align with the Pure RWD's affordability. Alongside reductions in power and range, one noticeable change is the transition from a panoramic glass panel to a solid roof, a move aimed at meeting the Pure's price point while maintaining quality.

Furthermore, the upholstery of the Lucid Air Pure RWD is imitation leather rather than the real leather available in other trim levels like as the Air Touring. But for an extra $3,000, customers who want the luxury of genuine leather still have that option. Although the more expensive Air variants come with wider wheels as standard, Lucid offers 19-inch versions at no additional cost to drivers who value maximum range.

Motor1.com's recent review highlights the prevalence of modernist simplicity in today's car market, particularly in luxury EVs such as the Lucid Air Pure RWD. While brushed aluminum and sleek, button-free dashboards are commonplace, many of these minimalist interiors prioritize aesthetics over functionality.

Vital features often remain hidden in menus, leading to frustration among drivers seeking usability alongside style. This underscores the challenge of balancing form and function in automotive design.

The Cabin

The cabin of the Lucid Air Pure RWD embodies a truly modernist aesthetic, prioritizing usability despite its minimalist design. Featuring only four physical buttons for fan and temperature control, along with a stereo volume knob, most functions are accessed through the wrap-around 34-inch instrument/infotainment cluster and the retractable center screen, known as the Pilot Panel.

This intuitive layout ensures that essential features are readily accessible, minimizing the need for deep menu navigation while driving. Consequently, drivers can quickly acclimate to the cabin's interface, feeling confident in their mastery within a short time.

According to Car and Driver's review, the refinement of the Lucid Air Pure RWD impresses, with its smooth ride remaining unaffected by bumps or highway irregularities, even with larger wheels. Minimal leaning is observed during cornering, maintaining stability. The only notable disturbance at highway speeds is the faint whisper of wind around the driver's side mirror.

Improved Software

Motor1.com highlighted the software improvements in the Lucid Air. Previous iterations suffered from laggy and buggy software, but recent updates have rectified these issues. In my experience with the Air Pure, the interface operated smoothly without any glitches.

Wireless Apple CarPlay, now standard across all Lucid models, including the base Air Pure, enhances the driving experience. Coupled with spacious legroom and comfortable faux-leather upholstery, the Air Pure offers a delightful ride, maintaining the high standards set by the Lucid lineup.

Based on earlier predictions from MotorTrend and AutoEvolution, the Lucid Air Pure RWD is predicted to have a 406-mile range and reach 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds. In an email to MotorTrend, a Lucid spokesman did, however, stress that these estimations are still tentative and susceptible to change.
