New Jersey will be more eco-friendly by 2035. This goal will result from the state's move to ban new gasoline powered car. Electric vehicle (EV) will be the soon the trend in NJ's road. Such move to help save the environment will start gradually. New Jersey will lay down new regulations beginning 2026.

New Jersey: Advance Clean Cars II

Soon new gasoline powered car will no longer be on sale and used in New Jersey. The state's Department of Environmental Protection filed the Advance Clean Cars II on Tuesday. According to N.J.com, Governor Phil Murphy confirmed that this will require all new car sales to be electric. Moreover, some regulations will start in 2026.

New Jersey takes this big step toward 100% zero-emission vehicles by 2035. Furthermore, SFGATE reported, NJ's officials announced on Tuesday that, as part of their initiative to enhance air quality and decrease planet-warming emissions, they will implement a ban on the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035, promoting the adoption of electric vehicles.

Importantly, this initiative doesn't ban gasoline car ownership or mandate EV purchases. It still allows the sale of used gasoline cars and permits residents to buy gasoline cars elsewhere, provided they meet emissions standards. This move reflects a nationwide shift towards reducing emissions and promoting EV adoption.

Reason Behind the Shift

The filing of "Advance Clean Cars II" before the impending deadline marks a significant milestone in New Jersey's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning towards a cleaner transportation sector. Under this rule, automakers will be compelled to adhere to zero emission vehicle requirements, commencing with light-duty cars in model year 2027, corresponding to their release in 2026.

The necessity of reducing transportation emissions, which have been rising since 2020, was underlined by Alex Ambrose, the transportation and climate policy analyst for New Jersey Policy Perspective. Currently, this industry produces the greatest amount of greenhouse gas emissions in New Jersey-35%-of all industries.

With the implementation of ACCII, the state aims to reverse this trend and make substantial progress towards cleaner air and reduced carbon footprints. This initiative is seen as a crucial step forward, positioning New Jersey to catch up with other states that have already embraced clean energy solutions.

Despite recent challenges, such as the setback in offshore wind development, Governor Murphy's commitment to environmental sustainability remains steadfast. Advocates for the environment applaud the adoption of ACCII, seeing it as a landmark event that will allow for the installation of over 90,000 more electric vehicles on New Jersey roads.

Light-duty vehicle emissions are a major source of co-pollutants and carbon emissions, thus Anjuli Ramos-Busot, the director of the Sierra Club's New Jersey branch, emphasized the significance of reducing these emissions. ACCII is a vital and progressive approach to lessen environmental harm and safeguard the welfare of New Jerseyans in light of the ongoing effects of climate change in the state.

Despite "Advance Clean Cars II" goal for a good cause. There are those who are not happy and have concerns about it as shared in N.J.com.
