Selection Process

According to U.S. News & World Report in assessing vehicle quality, it relies on the overall score from their Best Car rankings. The methodology for determining this score does not rely on the subjective assessments or tests conducted by U.S. News editors. Instead, they gather and analyze all reputable published reviews of a particular vehicle to ascertain the consensus opinion of the automotive press regarding various aspects such as driving performance, interior comfort, and the functionality of connectivity and tech features.

This evaluation is then used to create a numerical overall score that is used to judge quality for the 2024 Best Cars for the Money awards. Information on dependability, safety, fuel efficiency, and load capacity are added to it.

Furthermore, U.S. News& World Report shared that when evaluating the true cost of owning a car, it's important to consider ongoing expenses such as repairs, fuel, and insurance, in addition to the initial purchase price negotiated with the dealer. To gauge the value a car provides, a comprehensive approach is taken.

First, five-year total ownership costs, as calculated by Vincentric, are considered. These costs are then harmonized with real-time transaction prices provided by their partner, TrueCar. This combined information forms the basis for determining a car's value score in the context of the 2024 Best Cars for the Money awards.
