The Hyundai Motor Group is set to accelerate the production launch at its upcoming electric car plant located in Georgia, USA. The plant will commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2024, marking an earlier start than previously anticipated, which aligns with the recognition of February 26, 2024, as Hyundai Day in Georgia. This significant milestone signifies the automaker's commitment to initiate production at its inaugural dedicated EV and battery plant in the US later this year.
Sooner, Not Later: Hyundai Metaplant EV Factory
Situated in Bryan County, the state-of-the-art Hyundai Metaplant EV Factory is set to produce a remarkable annual output of 300,000 electric vehicles and batteries spanning the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis lineups.
As per Electrive, the South Korean company advanced its construction schedule, shifting from January 2023 to October 2022, citing the evolving electric car subsidy regulations in the USA as the driving force behind this adjustment.
While counterparts face uncertainties around demand, the Hyundai Motor Group stands out for its proactive approach, maintaining a leading position with its innovative EV factory. Prior to commencing construction at the Hyundai Motor Group's cutting-edge Metaplant EV Factory in autumn 2022, the anticipated production launch in Bryan County was slated for the first half of 2025. Despite the earlier construction kickoff, this timeline remained unchanged.
However, the Group has recently confirmed a significant adjustment, bringing forward the start of production to the fourth quarter. This shift presumably reflects the efficiency gained from the early construction commencement.
According to EVs InsideEVs Global, amid the surging wave of electric vehicle (EV) investments in America, driven by the tax incentives within the Inflation Reduction Act and the push to provide tax benefits for vehicles manufactured in North America, the EV revolution is heralding a resurgence of manufacturing jobs in the U.S.

Notably, the upcoming Metaplant near Savannah is scheduled to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2024, with an anticipated "grand opening" ceremony slated for the first quarter of 2025, as revealed by company officials yesterday. This revised timeline marks a significant advancement from the previous plan, and the announcement was made during the "Hyundai Day" celebration at Georgia's state capitol, in line with indications provided by the automaker last year.
Huge Investment: Georgia State
The Korean automaker's substantial investment in the Metaplant is a cause for celebration in Georgia. Valued at $7.59 billion, this development, coupled with the $5 billion EV battery cell plant in Bartow County, built in collaboration with SK On, is expected to generate 8,500 new jobs. Reports indicate that the state has offered incentives totaling $1.8 billion, encompassing tax breaks, to establish what is poised to become one of the Hyundai Motor Group's most significant EV manufacturing ecosystems in the years ahead.
According to a report by Electrek, Jose Munoz, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, expressed the significance of Georgia as a pivotal location for the company, referring to it as a "second home." Munoz emphasized the pride associated with Hyundai's investments in Georgia, highlighting the creation of tens of thousands of high-paying jobs for Americans and the substantial economic influx into the state. Notably, Hyundai's contributions to Georgia's largest economic endeavor have been recognized, surpassing even Rivian's $5 billion EV factory located outside of Atlanta.
