Opel has announced that the incoming Frontera will replace the outdated Crossland, and the next-generation Grandland will be positioned to go hand in hand with the new Peugeot 3008. This is a substantial change in the company's range. Opel has revealed a wide range of completely electric cars in a news release.

Latest Electric Vehicles from Opel

As reported by CarScoops, Opel recently introduced a wide range of fully electric vehicles, putting the spotlight on two hidden models. These subtly displayed SUVs signal the upcoming launch of the Frontera and the enhanced version of the Grandland, offering a flexible range of powertrain options, including both combustion and fully electric capabilities.

The report also revealed that Opel has already established a comprehensive range of fully electric vehicles, featuring the Rocks, Corsa, Mokka, Astra, Astra Sports Tourer, Combo, and Zafira for passenger transportation, alongside the Combo Cargo, Vivaro, and Movano for commercial purposes. The upcoming addition of the Frontera and Grandland will effectively address the noticeable absence of fully electric options in the sub-compact and compact SUV categories, completing the brand's electrified lineup across various segments.

Similar to its forerunner, the upcoming Frontera will share close ties with the next-generation Citroen C3 Aircross, set to be unveiled in 2024 featuring an elongated body and a three-row, seven-seater configuration. This indicates that it will utilize Stellantis' new "Smart Car" platform, providing the choice between traditional internal combustion engine and electric powertrains for the first time.

The upcoming generation of the Opel Grandland has been a frequent subject of interest for our spy photographers, capturing its development testing on multiple occasions. However, its official teaser debut marks a significant milestone.

According to a report by electrive, the Opel Grandland is set to be succeeded by an electric model next year. To facilitate the production of the e-SUV based on the new STLA Medium EV platform, the parent company Stellantis is making a significant investment of €130 million in the German plant in Eisenach.

As a result of this investment, the Grandland model will transition to being electric-only. Stellantis anticipates that the production of the new battery electric vehicle (BEV) will commence in the second half of 2024.

For its next Crossland replacement, Opel has decided to bring back the Frontera model name. Before that, from 1991 until 2003, Opel sold an off-road vehicle under the Frontera. It will, however, make a comeback as an SUV model in 2024.

According to electrive, there is no direct connection between the Crossland and the former Frontera model. While the Crossland belongs to the B-segment SUV category and followed the small Meriva van, the Frontera was historically an off-road vehicle available in two iterations, measuring just under 4.65 meters in length.

It's important to note that the Frontera served as the predecessor to the Opel Grandland, a name that will be preserved for the upcoming model. Additionally, there existed a three-door variant of the Frontera known as the Frontera Sport, which, at approximately 4.20 meters in length, could certainly fit into the Crossland's segment.
