As Colorado sees a decline in vehicle thefts, Hyundai and Denver Police are committed to sustaining this progress. In Denver, Hyundai technicians are actively engaged in safeguarding vehicles from theft. Hyundai owners, who have faced challenges including auto theft incidents, are offered free software updates as part of the collaborative effort to deter theft.

Hyundai,Denver Fight Against Car Theft

According to 9 Kusa-TV Denver, the Colorado Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force, there has been a notable 30% decrease in car thefts since the start of 2024 when compared to the prior year. Hyundai models continue to be common among the state's top 10 stolen cars, notwithstanding these advancements. In response, Hyundai collaborates closely with the Denver Police to implement proactive measures against theft.

Hyundai technician Susan Marsh underscores the importance of technology in safeguarding Hyundai owners in Denver from vehicle theft. Through the installation of free software updates, Marsh enhances the security features of Hyundai vehicles, mitigating the risk of break-ins and unauthorized vehicle access. These efforts align with the shared goal of reducing auto theft incidents in the region.

Citing data from C-MATT, Hyundai emerges as the second-most-stolen vehicle brand in the state, prompting heightened vigilance and action from industry stakeholders. Ira Gabriel, also employed by Hyundai, expresses optimism that the technological advancements and software updates will effectively combat vehicle theft, ultimately removing Hyundai from the list of frequently stolen vehicles in Colorado.

Furthermore, Marsh stated Drivers who have had their Hyundai vehicles equipped with anti-theft software updates by Denver Police express heightened feelings of security. They may invest in their cars with confidence knowing that they are well-protected against theft thanks to this extra piece of mind.

Car Theft Experiences

According to a CBS Colorado article, over 3,000 stolen Kia and Hyundai cars have been reported in Colorado by 2022. Hyundai Vice President Dave VandeLinde attributes this surge in thefts to a viral social media challenge that rapidly gained traction nationwide.

Thieves exploited a flaw in the ignition system, particularly in certain Hyundai models lacking a standard anti-theft device. Since then, Hyundai has been diligently working on implementing a solution to address this issue.

Lora McCabe expressed her shock at the situation. Kristie Collier, on the other hand, has unfortunately faced theft twice, recalling an incident where someone asked if her vehicle had been stolen again. Additionally, some owners have endured the misfortune of having their vehicles stolen three times.

Sheila Hughes stated how she sobbed after learning that her car had been taken and that she would not be able to take her daughter to school or to work. Many owners were not informed that their cars were vulnerable to theft at the time of purchase.

Hyundai Vice President Dave VandeLinde explained the complexities involved in engineering a software solution for vehicles, likening it to rewriting all components to integrate the solution, a process that takes months.

According to CBS Colorado, the collaboration between Hyundai and the Denver Police aims to offer free software updates to millions of customers through nationwide clinics, with Denver included in the initiative.

Unfortunately, for many victims, this remedy arrives after their unfortunate ordeals. As reported by CBS News Colorado, several theft victims had their vehicles recovered by the police. However, some vehicles were either totaled due to body damage or contaminated with drug residue, rendering them ineligible for the software updates.
