Breaking ground in the S650-generation Mustang platform, Shelby American unveiled the 2024 Super Snake on Thursday. This edition presents customization options, featuring two engine configurations and distinct design elements. Limited to just 250 units, each meticulously cataloged in the official Shelby registry, pricing details are yet to be disclosed.
Unleashes Power: Shelby's Super Snake
As reported by Motor1.com, the latest version of Ford's iconic pony car boasts an array of performance-focused enhancements, highlighted by the option of an 830-horsepower supercharged V-8 engine. The CEO of Shelby American, Joe Conway, stressed in a statement that the Shelby Super Snake was designed to be the pinnacle of Shelby American's performance cars, taking cues from Ford's iconic Mustang sports car.
Representing Carroll Shelby's philosophy of ongoing development, every version seeks to improve the lineage. The Shelby American team located in Las Vegas has created their best Super Snake to date in partnership with Ford Motor Company, Whipple, and other prominent figures in the industry.
The 2024 Super Snake is a versatile vehicle with two engine options for buyers: a 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 engine that produces 480 horsepower when aspirated, or a Whipple supercharged version of the same engine that produces an amazing 830 horsepower.
Whichever engine is selected, Shelby has added a unique suspension arrangement for better cornering agility and a Borla exhaust system for better airflow. Improved cooling systems and stronger brakes help to maximize the powertrain's performance. Selecting the optional six-speed manual gearbox yields extra benefits like a single-piece driveshaft and a short-throw shifter.
Top Speed reported Ford has not yet given any statement about current S650 Mustang. Shelby American has decided to build a real next-generation Shelby Super Snake on its own in honor of the Ford Mustang's 60th anniversary.

Top Speed further clarified that the situation might be perplexing for those unfamiliar with Shelby American. Despite the association with the Shelby name, the company operates independently from Ford and is not based in Dearborn. However, Shelby American does hold Ford's approval to produce performance vehicles using existing Ford products, operating out of Nevada.
In contrast to Ford's usage of the Shelby trademark on models like the Mustang Shelby GT350 and GT500, all Shelby American products originate from a distinct entity. This approach mirrors Carroll Shelby's early 1960s operations before collaborating with Ford. The 2024 Super Snake, serving as a tribute to the original 1967 Super Snake powered by the GT40's engine, exemplifies this tradition.
More About Shelby Super Snake
According to Autoblog, the exterior enhancements for the Super Snake encompass several notable features. These include an aluminum Super Snake hood equipped with pin locks, carbon fiber hood vents, wide body front fenders, and a wide body front fascia assembly. Shelby has also integrated a carbon fiber Super Snake rear wing and rear diffuser, accompanied by numerous company logos for unmistakable branding.
Additionally, the installation of 20-inch forged magnesium wheels contributes to a weight reduction of nearly 37 pounds compared to stock Mustang wheels, with each wheel weighing just nine pounds per corner. This reduction in weight enhances acceleration and reduces braking distances for improved performance.
