Subaru Legacy to reach the end of its production line. This vehicle from the United States, manufactured in Subaru of Indiana Automotive factory in Lafayette, Indiana, culminates with the last vehicle set to roll off the production line in 2025.
End for Subaru Legacy
Subaru Legacy has sold 1.3 million cars in the US over. Recently, due to a decline in sales Subaru has decided to stop producing the Legacy model. Car & Driver reports that Subaru claims that the demise of the Legacy is because buyers are now more interested in crossovers and SUVs. Up until the fifth generation's 2010 debut, the Legacy was available in sedan and wagon body styles in the US.
A lifted Outback variant first appeared in the Legacy range in the middle of the 1990s, and it was eventually separated into its own model in 2010. With this change, Subaru's Outback became the only long-roof model in the lineup, taking the place of the Legacy wagon.
According to MotorTrend's review, the Legacy has consistently lacked enthusiasm; this pattern will carry over into the 2024 model. But even with its lackluster qualities, the car is commended for its superb safety systems, comforting traction, and smooth ride.
Due to these attributes, it is positioned as a strong choice and comes in at number five in their rankings of midsize sedans. The Legacy has consistently upheld its standing as a trustworthy and pleasant option in its class throughout its existence in the market.
As per Motor1.com, Subaru has indicated a strategic shift towards electric vehicles by announcing that it would add eight EVs to its portfolio by 2028. Speculators predict that Subaru will fill the gap in its portfolio quickly with the departure of the Legacy, most likely by releasing a fully electric car of a comparable size and stature.

2024 Subaru Legacy
Edmunds review shared that the Subaru Legacy is a well-equipped and cozy midsize sedan with plenty of interior space, a roomy trunk, and all-wheel drive as standard. The Legacy's non-turbocharged variants, on the other hand, lack uniqueness and excitement. Furthermore, there are issues with the infotainment system's speed and usability.
Subaru's Legacy, a steadfast contender in the midsize sedan segment, comes equipped with standard all-wheel drive, an optional turbocharged engine for added power, and a commendable level of comfort. Recent updates in styling and the integration of the EyeSight system, a standard suite of advanced driver aids, were introduced last year.
Notably, the Sport model received a boost with the inclusion of a more powerful 260-horsepower turbocharged engine. For the 2024 model year, Subaru opted for minimal updates, with the Sport model standing out once again, now featuring a standard 12-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
Meanwhile, as shared by Car and Driver, in comparison to the previous generation, the Legacy's cabin offers a notable increase in spaciousness, especially in the rear seating area. Although its design leans towards the conservative side, the interior of the Legacy prioritizes functionality, incorporating carefully selected materials throughout.
While cloth upholstery comes standard, the higher-tier Limited and Touring models elevate the experience with leather seating. The front seats are ergonomically sculpted for comfort, with the upper trims boasting additional features such as a manual thigh extension for the driver's seat, catering to individuals with longer legs.
