MG has debuted the electrifying EXE181 Concept, redefining hypercar performance before its public reveal at the Beijing motor show. Sporting an ultra-aerodynamic teardrop design, the EXE181 boasts an impressive drag coefficient of 0.181 and striking scissor doors, embodying speed even when stationary like a sleek sculpture.
MG EXE181 Unleashed
As reported by Autocar, the EXE181 draws inspiration from the legendary EX181 land speed record car, famously piloted by Stirling Moss and Phil Hill during the late 1950s, renowned for its unparalleled aerodynamic efficiency.
In a similar vein, the EXE181 adopts a minimalist approach to bodywork, enveloping a single-seat monocoque with sleek contours. The driver occupies a central bubble cockpit reminiscent of the UFO-like design of the EX181. Extending from the cockpit's teardrop shape is a tapered tail fin, which can rise from the car's body to serve as an air brake during deceleration from high velocities.
According to Modern Car Collector, this latest concept from MG pays homage to the brand's rich heritage by taking cues from the iconic 1959 EXE181 model, renowned for setting a land speed record. This contemporary reinterpretation serves not only as a tribute but also as a testament to MG's bold vision within the dynamic realm of global electric vehicles.
Interior, Exterior
Interior visuals indicate that the EXE181 likely features four motors, each allocated to a wheel; however, MG has not provided specific information about its powertrain yet. The claimed 0-62mph acceleration time of merely 1.9 seconds hints at a power output surpassing 1000bhp, considering the Rimac Nevera requires 1887bhp to achieve the same sprint time.

According to CarScoops, the concept takes cues from the 1959 MG EX181 high-speed experimental vehicle, evident from its name. This modern interpretation showcases a capsule-shaped cockpit, prominent fenders, futuristic wheel covers, and an elongated tail with active aerodynamic flaps. MG asserts that these sleek design elements contribute to an outstanding aerodynamic coefficient of 0.181cd.
Towards the front, a see-through material envelops the facade, offering a view of the monocoque framework and a segment of the suspension. Inside the cozy cabin, the driver's seat takes center stage, complemented by a yoke-style steering wheel equipped with an embedded touchscreen for enhanced usability.
Engine, Speed
The MG EXE181 opts for a modern approach by replacing the supercharged 1.5-liter engine found in its predecessor with a more sophisticated setup featuring four electric motors. Although specific details regarding the total power output remain undisclosed, the company has confirmed an astonishing 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 1.9 seconds. By comparison, the production version of the Rimac Nevera achieved the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) dash in a groundbreaking 1.81 seconds.
CarScoops also noted that while the exact top speed of the concept is yet to be revealed, a social media post by SAIC MG and the inclusion of parachute brakes in the official renders hint at a possible speed record attempt, reminiscent of the achievements of its predecessor, the MG EX181. Back in 1959, the EX181 made history by reaching a remarkable top speed of 254.91 mph (410 km/h) with renowned racing driver Phil Hill behind the wheel.
