Ferrari has introduced the 12Cilindri, a fresh V-12-powered two-seater model. This vehicle can be perceived as a progression from the 812 Superfast it succeeds. However, the design of the new car signifies a distinct departure from its forerunner, showcasing a significant evolution in Ferrari's iconic lineup.
Latest Design, Upgrades: Ferrari 12Cilindri
Within Ferrari's prestigious lineup, the 12Cilindri-which means "12 cylinders" in Italian-takes the lead from the 812 Superfast. This model, which was recently introduced at a major Miami Beach event in both Coupe and Spider versions, honors Ferrari's heritage while carving out a unique route apart from its past.
As reported by CarScoops, the 12Cilindri boasts Ferrari's renowned 6.5-liter V12 engine, maintaining its original capacity while undergoing enhancements for increased performance. With modifications enabling a remarkable 819 hp output and a torque of 500 lb-ft (678 Nm), this powerhouse can rev up to 9,500 rpm. Noteworthy upgrades include the use of titanium con rods for reduced mass, an advanced aluminum alloy for pistons, and a refined crankshaft for optimal balance.
Additionally, the adoption of Formula 1-derived steel valvetrain components with a Diamond-Like-Carbon coating elevates mechanical efficiency, showcasing Ferrari's commitment to cutting-edge engineering in the 12Cilindri model.
Enhancements continue with a more compact manifold and plenum, optimized torque curve across all engine speeds, and software adjustments tailoring maximum torque based on gear selection. Featuring a distinct aesthetic departure from its Ferrari counterparts, the 12Cilindri showcases a unique design that sets it apart. Drawing inspiration from the classic 365 GTB/4 Daytona, the front fascia is characterized by sharp headlights, DRLs, and a sleek gloss black element bridging the lights.
Ferrari emphasizes a refined and sophisticated design approach compared to the 812 Superfast, focusing on clean lines and muscular proportions that exude a sense of elegance. Additionally, the model incorporates advanced aerodynamic elements to enhance performance and visual appeal.

What's More
As noted by Road & Track, the rear of the 12Cilindri coupe presents a radical and daring design by Ferrari. Implementing active aerodynamics, the model features distinctive triangular wing elements on each side, elegantly finished in black and seamlessly integrated with the dark tailgate glass. This unique configuration creates a striking silhouette reminiscent of a stealth fighter when viewed from above.
Complementing this design, black panels on the roof continue the aerodynamic theme forward. The complexity of this styling intrigued observers during the preview in Maranello, prompting extended contemplation of its visual impact.
The color sensitivity of the 12Cilindri becomes evident, with lighter hues accentuating its features prominently, while darker shades offer a subtler appearance, adding an element of intrigue to the overall design.
As reported by Car and Driver, the upcoming car is slated for release later this year, carrying an anticipated price point in the low $400,000s. Following this launch, an open-top iteration of the 12Cilindri, known as the Spider, is expected to debut towards the end of 2024. According to chief marketing and commercial officer Enrico Galliera, development on this model began four years ago amidst a landscape dominated by discussions on electrification. Galliera highlighted that while Ferrari will introduce a fully electrified vehicle next year, the 12Cilindri stands in stark contrast by eschewing hybrid technology entirely.
Drawing inspiration from the illustrious legacy, exceptional performance, and captivating presence of Ferrari GTs from the '60s and '70s, the 12Cilindri embodies the essence of the brand's DNA. Galliera described the model as a contemporary muscle car that pays homage to its predecessors with a blend of modern style and refined characteristics.
In a feature by Robb Report, it was highlighted that the 12Cilindri showcases the most expansive hood ever seen on a Ferrari model. Crafted from a single sheet of aluminum through hot-forming techniques, the grand front-hinged clamshell appears substantial enough to accommodate multiple stranded island dwellers.
Positioned in a mid-front-engine configuration, the distinctive red-headed V-12 powerplant sits astern the axle, underscoring Ferrari's commitment to precision engineering and performance in the design of the 12Cilindri.
