Lexus has registered trademarks suggesting a potential launch of an all-electric variant for the ES sedan. Trademarked names such as ES350h, ES350e, and ES500e hint at a transition towards hybrid and electric propulsion systems for the upcoming ES sedan model.

Lexus EV Sedan Trademark

According to InsideEVs, the Toyota Camry's more opulent version, the ES, is based on the same front-wheel-drive chassis. Thus, the arrival of an inexpensive electric Camry may be hinted to by the possible introduction of an electric ES. The report also cited to AutoGuide's update, Lexus is getting ready to introduce the ES350e and ES500e, two electric versions of the ES.

Notably, the RZ, which comes in single-motor RZ300e and dual-motor RZ450e versions, is the only other Lexus model with a lowercase "e" in its name. The finding of this trademark clearly implies that Lexus plans to launch an electric ES model.

Lexus has expressed a desire to sell one million electric vehicles by 2030, even though it hasn't made plans to launch an electric sedan official. One of the design concepts that Lexus unveiled at the end of 2021, providing a peek of potential future opportunities for the brand, was the sleek Lexus Electrified Sedan Concept.

Now that the discovery of the electric ES trademark has been made, InsideEVs believed that the forthcoming model will likely target affordability, potentially directed towards competing with the widely popular Tesla Model 3.

Furthermore, Lexus unveiled an electric sedan concept named the LF-ZC. This striking vehicle embodies a Japanese design aesthetic inspired by a katana, exuding a remarkable appearance. However, its bold design, even if toned down for production, may not align with the ES brand. When it enters production in 2026, it is expected to adopt a different name.

InsideEVs also reported that the base model, ES350e, is projected to feature a single-motor setup delivering around 300 horsepower, while the ES500e is anticipated to offer a more potent dual-motor configuration with all-wheel drive and 400 horsepower or higher.

It remains uncertain whether Lexus will utilize the e-TNGA platform from models like the RZ and Toyota bZ4X, or if they have engineered a method to develop fully electric vehicles based on the existing TNGA-K platform used in the current ES.

If the former platform is employed, the entry-level electric ES is likely to retain front-wheel drive, akin to the current combustion and hybrid versions.

More On this Future Electric Sedan

According to CarScoops, the 2018 Lexus ES was developed on the same chassis as the Toyota Camry. Even while it might not be as well-liked as the Camry or RX SUV, the Lexus ES sedan is nevertheless a reliable addition to the manufacturer's upcoming lineup of automobiles. Recent trademark applications imply that the Lexus ES is set to receive fresh hybrid and all-electric propulsion systems, hinting at a potential update arriving sooner than anticipated, drawing parallels to the 2025 Toyota Camry's advancements.

The ES350e and ES500e are anticipated to come equipped with entirely electric powertrains. Currently, predicting the specifics of the electric powertrain configurations is challenging as Toyota and Lexus have not yet introduced fully electric models built on the TNGA-K platform.

CarScoops also shared speculation surrounding a fully electric Lexus ES first surfaced in December 2021 when a midsize sedan was teased as part of the forthcoming EV lineup. Despite the carmaker withholding detailed information about the undisclosed models in the backdrop, the sedan displayed a familiar silhouette akin to the current ES, albeit with a revamped front end.

A closer examination of a magnified image shared on the Club Lexus Forum reveals the upcoming EV boasting slimmer LED headlights and a sleeker front bumper design devoid of the traditional "Spindle grille." While this depiction could be an initial concept rendering, it offers a glimpse into the potential design direction to anticipate.
