The Hyundai Nexo is in need of an upgrade after going on sale in early 2018 without receiving any new information. Along with a new look, the next generation model will also include significant engineering improvements to greatly increase the driver range for better usability.

Hyundai Nexo for 2025

As per the Korea Economic Daily report cited by Electrive, Hyundai is gearing up to launch a whole new version of the Hyundai Nexo hydrogen fuel cell vehicle by the second half of 2025. Hyundai held a customer clinic to get input on the infotainment and powertrain upgrades for the upcoming Nexo. In order to boost travel range and enable over-the-air updates for chassis parts like the suspension and braking systems, the new vehicle will have a larger fuel tank.

Moreover, the report also stated contrary to previous reports, Hyundai has opted to retain the Nexo name for the upcoming comprehensive redesign. Testing of the next-generation Hyundai Nexo is currently in progress, with the first spy photos of the hydrogen fuel cell EV surfacing online towards the end of April via YouTube.

Evidently, Hyundai has engineered the next-generation model from the ground up, imparting it with a wholly fresh identity. The completely redesigned Nexo appears to showcase a square-shaped and boxy body along with a vertical front grille that harks back to the fifth-generation Santa Fe. The third-generation fuel cell stack from Hyundai will be used in the forthcoming Nexo model.

It will produce 100 kW, which is 30% less than the 95 kW produced by the second-generation unit in the current model. The new fuel cell stack's greatly decreased size may make installation procedures easier and may lead to a smaller total weight. The significantly reduced size of the new fuel cell stack could simplify installation processes and potentially result in a lighter overall weight.

Existing Model: 2024 Hyundai Nexo

As per Car and Driver, Hyundai has made minor updates to the 2024 Nexo, following a similar pattern established since the model's introduction in 2019. The Blue and Limited variants now feature a new activated charcoal filter and updated HVAC software logic aimed at minimizing interior odors.

Additionally, there are now four Type C USB ports instead of three Type A ports, while the rear hatch has been equipped with privacy glass. In terms of color options, Titanium Gray Matte has replaced Shimmering Silver on the paint palette. Exclusive to the Limited trim, the rear side windows now offer one-touch up/down control.

The Nexo comes equipped with a standard 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It includes four Type C USB ports and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Hyundai's Blue Link app provides additional digital capabilities like remote engine start with seat heating or cooling, locating the vehicle remotely, and finding hydrogen fuel stations.

Blue Link services are complimentary for the initial three years. Moreover, every Nexo model is equipped with a forward collision avoidance system featuring pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
