The BMW Skytop Concept was revealed prematurely ahead of its launch. BMW plans to showcase the Skytop Concept in under a week, yet an official unveiling video showcasing the car from various perspectives has emerged on the internet.

Video Leak Highlights BMW Skytop Concept

Before its scheduled release, a promotional film for the next BMW concept car, known as Skytop, has appeared online. From May 24-26, the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este will host the official unveiling.

According to Autocar, a sleek Targa-style coupe has emerged, hinting at a potential successor to the BMW 8 Series. Keeping the long wheelbase and elegant silhouette of its predecessor, this model introduces fresh design elements like defined body contours and slender LED lights.

Autocar noted that various aspects of the concept indicate its readiness for production, including features like the front bumper's towing eye cover and the inclusion of a reversing camera. At the front, it brings back BMW's classic shark nose design, encircling a modern, angular take on the iconic kidney grille. The front end is sharply angled, featuring a bold lower bumper section.

CarScoops has reported that the vehicle showcases a wholly revamped and distinctive exterior. It's uncertain if this design is a standalone concept, akin to previous BMW prototypes, or a glimpse of a potential limited-edition model or a preview of upcoming coupe design elements.

Moreover, two sizable vents are intricately crafted into the hood, indicating the likely installation of an internal combustion engine beneath the hood. This inference is reinforced by the twin oval exhaust outlets integrated into the rear bumper.

Looking down on the convertible model reveals a harmonious design featuring a teardrop silhouette nestled between broad rear fenders. The hood vent division line extends to the back, lending the vehicle a sophisticated split-window boat-tail appearance. Along this line, notable features include a Hofmeister kink at the B-pillar, door handles seamlessly incorporated into the window trim, and striking turbine-style wheels.

More Details Reveal

This vehicle features a Targa top design with two detachable roof panels, likely stowed in the trunk when not in use. Inside, the cabin is luxuriously appointed with deep red upholstery, emphasizing meticulous attention to detail.

As reported by CarExpert.com.au, the Skytop seems to represent a luxurious grand tourer inspired by the foundation of the 8 Series, hinting at a potential evolution in BMW's grand touring lineup or a significant update to the current model. On the other hand, it could be solely a unique showcase vehicle.

The generous proportions of the Skytop clearly indicate its substantial size, characterized by an elongated hood and a spacious rear section. In contrast to the most recent 8 Series model, the Skytop accommodates only two occupants, drawing connections to the recent Z4 and Z3 models, along with design influences shared with the limited-production Z8.

The Skytop seems prepared for production, featuring the latest BMW iDrive infotainment system, conventional wing mirrors, a rearview mirror, and a front bumper with a tow hook cap.

Further insights are expected to be revealed when the concept is showcased alongside an M Hybrid Art Car at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este classic car exhibition from May 24 to 26.
