In 2023, the sole Lexus RZ variant was the 450e featuring a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive system comprising a 150-kW front motor and an 80-kW rear motor, alongside a 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery sourced from Prime Planet Energy & Solutions (PPES).

However, the landscape shifts with the impending arrival of a fresh addition to the Lexus RZ lineup. The forthcoming entry-level Lexus RZ 300e, slated for release later this year as a more affordable option, marks a notable expansion in the range with pricing details pending.

Here Comes Lexus RZ 300e

According to Cars UK, Lexus introduced the electric RZ 450e two years ago, expanding its EV lineup. Now, the brand is set to enhance the range with updates such as a new powertrain choice, the Urban entry-level specification, and an added perk for buyers hesitant about extended electric vehicle journeys.

The report further indicates that a fresh entry-level powertrain is set to launch later this year, accompanied by a new Urban grade option accessible on both the RZ 300e and RZ 450e models. This Urban grade offers features like 18" alloys, Lexus Link Pro infotainment with a 14" screen, wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control.

It also has a heated steering wheel, a 10-speaker sound system, and the comprehensive Lexus Safety System+ comprising parking sensors, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Safe Exit Assist.

Hybrid Loan Car

Cars UK reports that Lexus has launched the Lexus Reserve program, which offers free hybrid Lexus loan cars for up to two weeks every year for three years to owners of Lexus electric vehicles (RZ and UX). By removing the hassle of finding charging outlets and putting up with prolonged charging durations, this service seeks to make longer car journeys easier.

Owners have the flexibility to have the Hybrid loan car delivered and collected from their preferred location, without any mileage restrictions and with the option to travel internationally. This benefit is accessible to all individuals who have purchased a new or pre-owned electric Lexus RZ or UX from an authorized Lexus dealer.

As reported by InsideEVs, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency website recently published the all-electric range and energy consumption ratings for the 2024 Lexus RZ lineup. These revelations have unveiled some pleasant surprises in terms of the overall efficiency of the vehicle, with the RZ achieving notably high efficiency ratings.

Within the lineup is the latest addition, the Lexus RZ 300e, featuring a slightly larger 72.8-kWh battery utilizing lithium-ion cells from CATL. This model is equipped with a single-motor, front-wheel drive powertrain generating 150 kW. When paired with 18-inch wheels, it achieves a range of 266 miles, which reduces to 224 miles with 20-inch wheels.

2023 Lexus RZ SUVOTY

Based on a MotorTrend report, Lexus has announced its commitment to producing solely battery-powered vehicles by 2035. The debut of the new RZ450e signifies the brand's initial foray into creating dedicated electric vehicles.

While this midsize crossover hints at a luxurious future lineup from Lexus, the review highlights shortcomings in key areas essential for electric vehicles, raising concerns about this initial EV offering.

The report further stated that, according to Inside, the material and build quality meet Lexus' standards, with particular praise for the velvety finish on the steering wheel. Zach Gale, the Buyer's Guide Director, expressed admiration for the RZ450e's rear seats, noting them to be among the most comfortable he has experienced in an EV.

However, Kristen Lee, the senior features editor, mentioned that ingress and egress could be challenging due to the underfloor battery placement. Scott Evans, the features editor, pointed out the discrepancy between the RZ's large touchscreen and small gauge display, perceiving the latter as occupying unnecessary space.

Additionally, the absence of a glove box was highlighted as another notable feature omission.
