The redesigned Nissan Murano was spotted being tested in Michigan, showcasing a fresh design influenced by elements from the Ariya and Kicks models. Anticipated to launch later in the year, the crossover will introduce a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine variant.

As per Autoblog, the focus lies on the cabin redesign. The current placement of the infotainment system low in the dash, a design characteristic showing the age of the midsize SUV, is noticeably absent in the new layout.

Instead, a wider lower dash reminiscent of the Nissan Ariya EV configuration is evident, featuring high-mounted screens above an almost shelf-like structure, with HVAC controls below. While the Murano maintains a cluster of physical controls unlike the Ariya, evident in the presence of a large knob and climate control buttons in the spy photos.

Autoblog also mentioned that the upcoming Murano is likely to continue using the existing D platform, which has been in use since its last update in 2015. This platform is shared with the Nissan Pathfinder and several Infiniti crossovers.

Nissan seems focused on distinguishing the Murano through its design and interior roominess instead of significant changes in powertrain options. There is hope that the Murano may adopt the traditional automatic transmission from the Pathfinder in place of its current model's setup.

As reported by CarScoops, the updated design showcases notable changes at the front. The signature V-Motion grille has been replaced with a new grille featuring horizontal bars that seamlessly integrate into stacked lighting units similar to those seen on the redesigned Kicks.

The Ariya-inspired headlights seem to be linked by a slim bar. Additionally, a broad lower intake reminiscent of the current model's design is visible. Despite the heavy camouflage on the prototype, the crossover displays more streamlined bodywork along with a distinct shoulder line.

These elements are complemented by a sleek windshield that blends into a sloping roofline. Significant alterations are noticeable at the rear as the license plate indentation shifts from the liftgate to the bumper. The vehicle now features sleeker taillights and fresh low-positioned reflectors.

In addition to the updated screens, there are air vents reminiscent of the Ariya model and a prominent volume knob. The center console showcases dedicated climate controls and contrast stitching.

The updates are clear at first glance, with the crossover sporting a broad, standalone display housing both a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment system. The infotainment system seems to incorporate integrated Google features, a change that would likely be well-received.

As mentioned in the Nissan Model article, it is believed to be the initial introduction of a new-generation Murano by Nissan since the 2015 model year. The 2025 Nissan Murano faces competition from other two-row midsize SUVs like the Chevrolet Blazer and Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.
