Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Roars with Upgrades, Powerful Performance 678 HP

Hyundai plans to participate in the upcoming Pike Peak hill climb with a fleet of four Ioniq 5 N vehicles. The company revealed on Friday that it will be sending four contenders, consisting of two fresh Hyundai Ioniq 5 TA electric vehicles, to tackle the challenging race.

Derived from the standard Ioniq 5 N, the Ioniq 5 N TA (Time Attack) retains the production model's advanced power electric (PE) system, which has been optimized to generate 687 horsepower through software adjustments. The additional 37 horsepower is specifically focused on enhancing the performance of the rear axle.
As reported by Motor1.com, the South Korean manufacturer revealed on Friday its intention to enter two enhanced models with the aim of setting a new record for modified electric SUVs/Crossovers. Visually, distinct alterations from the standard Ioniq 5 N are evident, with Hyundai introducing a bold aero package comprising a large spoiler, side sills, and widened fenders.
The vehicle features 18-inch forged wheels fitted with Yokohama slick tires, complemented by six-piston brakes in the front and four-piston calipers at the rear. Enhancements include a suspension upgrade with three-way adjustable dampers, offering flexibility in adjusting both ride height and camber settings.
Hyundai also boosted the power output. They reconfigured the electric powertrain to extract an extra 37 horsepower from the rear motor when in full overboost mode. This enhancement elevates the TA Spec's total power to 678 hp, utilizing components that remain consistent with those found in the standard Ioniq 5 N.
Consequently, Motor1.com reached out to Hyundai for insights on the potential release of a production variant of the TA Spec.

Safety First
Motor1.com also discussed each Hyundai Ioniq 5 competing at Pike Peak is adorned with a unique wrap and equipped with essential safety gear for the event. This includes enhanced external speakers that can generate up to 120 decibels of sound, featuring tones generated by Hyundai's N Active Sound+ system.
In addition to meeting the safety standards mandating electric vehicles to emit sound during races, Hyundai emphasizes that the engine sound will not only comply with regulations but also amplify driver feedback.

As per the report from Road & Track, the overall power output has been elevated to 678 hp, a performance level that the vehicle is expected to sustain even at higher altitudes towards the summit.
To effectively transfer this power to the road surface, the car is now equipped with motorsports-grade shock absorbers, while brand-new 18-inch racing wheels wrapped in Yokohama ADVAN 005 slick tires provide the necessary grip.
Enhancing the braking capability are upgraded racing brakes featuring six-piston calipers at the front and four-piston units at the rear. The car's body has undergone a comprehensive redesign to significantly increase downforce, incorporating widened fenders and prominent aerodynamic wings on both the front and rear ends.
Internally, the vehicle is equipped with essential safety features for such a demanding race, including a Recaro Pro Racer SPA seat with Hans integration, a Sabelt six-point safety harness, a PPIHC-specific roll cage, and a fire suppression system tailored specifically for electric vehicles.
Notably, the team has opted to replace the conventional EV warning sound mandated by the event organizers with their customized N Active Sound+ system, capable of operating at levels up to 120 dB.
