Honda is gearing up to unveil its latest electric van in Japan this October, with a starting price of approximately US$15,550 or JPY2.44 million. The N-VAN e stands out as a compact electric vehicle tailored for commercial applications.

Targeting delivery firms, construction sectors, and individuals seeking additional cargo capacity, this innovative van promises versatility and efficiency in various industries.

Honda N-Van Mini-Electric Vehicle

Honda is re-joining the domestic EV market with its mini-electric vehicle the N-Van Since 2022, Honda has been hinting at a fresh mini- electric vehicle, a van model inspired by its gas-powered N-VAN. A prototype of this vehicle was unveiled last October at the Japan Mobility Show, signaling Honda's commitment to electric mobility advancements.

As reported by Benzinga, this upcoming model seamlessly merges cutting-edge electric vehicle technology with the versatile gasoline-powered N-VAN. Renowned for its adaptability in commercial and leisure settings, the N-VAN e retains key attributes from its predecessor.

These include a spacious cargo area facilitated by a flat, low floor and high ceiling design, as well as a wide passenger-side opening made possible by the elimination of a central pillar.

Moreover, Honda's latest iteration introduces electric vehicle-focused upgrades, including a power output feature and a noise-reducing cabin environment. A compact eAxle system and a high-capacity battery are integrated into the N-VAN e's architecture.

This configuration, combined with a centralized arrangement of high-voltage elements, optimizes interior space utilization without compromising the primary selling point of a generous cargo hold essential for its commercial functionality.

Variants Available for N-Van e

Following extensive domestic testing conducted over the past year, Honda is now gearing up for the official launch of the brand-new N-VAN EV model.

Honda made a significant announcement stating that the electric N-VAN will be available for purchase in Japan starting October 10, 2024, with an attractive starting price of $15,500 (2,439,800 yen), as revealed by Electrek.

Boasting impressive features such as a WLTC range of up to 152 miles (245 km) and rapid 30-minute fast charging capabilities, Honda emphasizes that these specifications are tailored to meet the demands of delivery services, a key target market for the vehicle.

When utilizing regular charging at 6 kW, the N-VAN e can fully charge in approximately 4.5 hours. In an effort to enhance user experience and utility, Honda has enriched the N-VAN e with additional features and improved accessibility, specifically tailored for the electric version.

The N-VAN lineup now offers four distinct variants, each carefully crafted to cater to a diverse array of customer requirements, spanning from commercial applications to personal use. Kicking off with the e:L4, the standard model is equipped with four seats, catering to a broad spectrum of uses, and includes a 7" LCD screen for displaying essential information.

Transitioning to the e:FUN variant, this model boasts a design that seamlessly integrates with customers' recreational pursuits, offering features like rapid charging and LED headlights as standard. On the other hand, the e:G variant targets commercial applications, featuring a single seat tailored for delivery services and business operations. Unlike its gas-powered counterpart, the electric N-VAN is 95 mm longer, with a lowered floor height by 120 mm.
Lastly, Honda's latest addition, the e:L2 N-VAN model, presents multiple configurations aimed at simplifying loading and unloading tasks by removing seats and the center pillar for enhanced accessibility.

As per Global Data referencing Bloomberg's insights, Honda has disclosed its plans to establish a collaborative venture named Altna with Mitsubishi Corporation in the upcoming month. This joint effort aims to synergize efforts in electrification, focusing on areas like cost efficiency for electric vehicles and extending battery lifespan. The partnership entails an equal 50% ownership split between Honda and Mitsubishi.
