Breaking new ground, Lanzante Motorsport has unveiled an extraordinary limited-edition Porsche 930 that incorporates a genuine F1 engine delivering over 600 horsepower. The company plans to showcase an enhanced version of its TAG Turbo modified 911 at the upcoming 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, featuring upgraded TAG engines producing 617 hp and capable of reaching 10,250 rpm.

In a unique twist, Lanzante's initial TAG Turbo model featured a reworked 1980s Porsche twin-turbo F1 engine, expertly retuned by Cosworth to generate approximately 503 horsepower and rev up to 9,000 rpm. The forthcoming iteration promises a power bump to 625 horsepower with an increased redline of 10,250 rpm, with production limited to just three units this time.

Outlined by Hemmings, the trio of Porsche 930 TAG Turbo vehicles will honor individual F1 drivers and significant championship years. Lanzante specifies that each car will feature authentic race-used TAG TTE P01 1.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engines, renowned for securing three consecutive world titles for McLaren alongside drivers Niki Lauda and Alain Prost.

The initial vehicle in this series will showcase the engine that propelled F1 driver Pascal Prost to his inaugural Driver's World Championship victory in the 1985 season. Autoblog's coverage highlighted Cosworth's extensive enhancements to the engines, involving the installation of upgraded components like new pistons, connecting rods, camshafts, valves, and springs.

The V6 now features a revamped intake system with titanium turbos for weight reduction, coupled with an Inconel exhaust and a water-cooled radiator for optimal performance. Integrated with a new Cosworth ECU and Formula 1 wiring harness by Lanzante, the engine now boasts 625 horsepower and a 10,250 rpm limit.

Power is channeled through a refined six-speed manual gearbox sourced from a Porsche 911 RS from the 993 series, along with a limited-slip differential. These enhancements contribute to a swift 0-60 mph time of approximately 3.5 seconds, while the top speed is estimated at around 200 miles per hour, a significant increase compared to the era's standard 930 models.

Features: Interior, Exterior, More

Beyond the performance upgrades, the Porsche 930 TAG Turbo undergoes aesthetic transformations inspired by F1 heritage. Motor Authority reported that the exterior design pays homage to Pascal Prost's helmet from the corresponding racing season, with a custom paint scheme.

Additionally, the car is fitted with 18-inch wheels crafted from a blend of magnesium and carbon fiber, mimicking the style seen on Prost's actual F1 vehicle. These wheels are sourced from Dymag, the renowned supplier of F1 racing wheels, enhancing the visual authenticity of the tribute.

As reported by CarScoops, the Porsche 930 TAG Turbo undergoes significant weight reduction strategies to enhance performance. Lanzante opts for F1-grade carbon fiber components such as the hood, doors, roof, bumpers, and fenders while  incorporating a complete carbon braking system and lightweight Recaro seats.

The removal of non-essential electrical features like mirror motors contributes to shedding weight. Furthermore, the article stated that despite additions like a roll cage and efficient air conditioning, the vehicle achieves a remarkable weight of just 2,030 lbs (920 kg), lighter than a Mazda MX-5.

This is significantly less than a modern Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet. While pricing details remain undisclosed, considering the previous TAG Turbo models cost $1.5 million, the upcoming version is expected to command a premium that would make even a Turbo S appear comparatively affordable.
