Car models come and go as the options available in the market grow. Still, there is always a room for reviving old models that had ended their production line. Such may also bring forth collaboration from automakers. A report shared that Suzuki Cappuccino is set for rebirth, possibly with a Toyota GR Engine.
Reviving Suzuki Cappuccino
Suzuki Cappuccino will be back and it will have a Toyota engine. The revival could come as a Toyota sportscar. Unconfirmed reports stated that Suzuki and Toyota will collaborate to produce a Mazda MX-5 competitor.
According to CarScoops, there will be a collaboration aimed at reviving Suzuki Cappuccino after it was phased out more than 20 years ago. A partnership between Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu is anticipated for this project - the Suzuki Cappucino.
This upcoming model is rumored to potentially feature the engine found in the next-gen Toyota Starlet. CarScoops also shared that Sources out of Japan hint that this new Cappuccino may undergo substantial modifications. Thus it promises a fresh take on this vehicle.
The 1.3-liter three-pot engine is said to be derived from the 1.6-liter turbo of the GR Yaris and GR Corolla, but it will be downsized and capped at around 150 horsepower. CarScoops cited Best Car reporting that inside sources claim this engine will be the same as the one used in the rumored next-generation Toyota Starlet.
This was not the first time news surfaced about a possible revival of Suzuki Cappuccino.

A report from Drive stated there have been rumors of a resurfaced project at Toyota in May 2024. Insights from an unofficial report by Best Car hint at the revival of a past endeavor linked to the S-FR concept unveiled in 2015.
However, the specifics remain uncertain regarding whether the upcoming model will embrace a convertible design akin to the Cappuccino or opt for a compact coupe iteration positioned below the GR86 in the lineup.
Drive also noted of Best Car's report. It hinted at Daihatsu's involvement in developing a brand-new Copen model, closely linked to both the Cappuccino and undisclosed Toyota variants.
Possible Changes for Suzuki Cappuccino
A significant transformation is anticipated for Suzuki Cappuccino. This change revolves around its dimensions, hinting at substantial size adjustments in the works. As detailed by The Drive, significant changes, particularly in terms of size, are in the pipeline for the Suzuki Cappuccino, indicating a departure from its kei car classification.
Moreover, projections suggest the adoption of a scaled-down 1.3-liter iteration of the turbocharged three-cylinder engine from the GR Corolla, expected to deliver approximately 150 horsepower and 160 lb-ft of torque. Contrary to its speculated use in the purported GR Starlet hot hatch, this engine is rumored to drive the rear wheels of the Cappuccino instead of the front wheels, as anticipated for the hatchback model.
In addition, The Drive highlighted the absence of concrete information regarding the transmission options, raising speculation that a six-speed manual gearbox could be paired with an automatic variant. The rebirth of this Suzuki classic aligns its release timeline closely with its sibling models, aiming for a potential debut around 2027.
