Prospective buyers of the highly anticipated Volvo EX30 must wait slightly longer for its arrival. Volvo postponed the EX30 arrival in the U.S. The delayed shipment is due to a higher tariff imposed on Chinese imports, including vehicles. Volvo EX30's arrival in the U.S will happen in 2025.

Why is Delayed Shipment to US Happening

Volvo announced the delayed shipment of its EX30 to the U.S. This vehicle will not land on US soil until next year, 2025. The Swedish company, through its spokesman, Rusell Datz, explained the reason behind Ex30's delayed arrival in the US.

According to Autoblog, Datz through an email explained that this change is due to changes happening in the global automotive landscape. Volvo accepted pre-orders for EX30 since it was formally launched last year.

Volvo emphasized its commitment to offering EX30 to the US market. This happens despite the delayed shipment to the US. The company assured everyone that it was doing its best to bring the Volvo EX30 to the US. As per Reuters report, another contributing factor to this delayed shipment to the US is higher tariffs.

This adjustment is in response to the U.S. government imposing tariffs exceeding 100% on Chinese EV imports. Volvo started EX30 production in Zhangjiakou, China. Volvo stated that as part of an upscale production plan, it will begin manufacturing this compact electric SUV at a plant in Belgium in 2025.

President Joe Biden imposed significant tariff increases on Chinese imports last month. Most notably, tariffs on electric vehicles have been raised from the previous rate of 27.5% to nearly 100%.

Pricing, Origin of Volvo EX30 for US

Volvo will add EX30 to the American market. The base price for EX30 in the US will be $34,950. Therefore, providing another more affordable option for consumers. As reported by Electrek, the Volvo EX30 offers customers between Single Motor and Twin Motor Performance editions.

The Single-Motor variant delivers a range of up to 275 miles, whereas the AWD model can travel up to 265 miles on a single charge.

In response to what President Biden cited as "unfair practices" and undervalued exports, new tariffs have been implemented, impacting Chinese EV imports, including those from Geely, Volvo's parent company.

Volvo has disclosed intentions to commence EX30 production in Ghent, Belgium, although not slated until 2025. The company cites these delays as a result of scaling up EX30 manufacturing in Belgium specifically to cater to the U.S. market. Despite its affordable initial cost, the EX30 boasts Volvo's signature safety and technology features, including integrated Google and AppleCar Play support.

Concurrently, Volvo initiated production of its larger electric SUV, the EX90, in South Carolina earlier this month. As highlighted in a recent review by Car and Driver, Volvo is broadening its electric vehicle portfolio by introducing the stylish EX30 SUV, which combines sleek design with an advanced technological foundation.

Customers can choose between Single- and Dual-Motor variants: the former features a 268-hp rear-wheel-drive system, while the latter boasts a 422-hp all-wheel-drive configuration, positioning the EX30 as Volvo's fastest-accelerating model to date.
