Martin Brower, a McDonald's distributor in Canada, has added 10 Volvo VRN Electric Trucks to support food and beverage deliveries. Brower will bring these trucks to selected McDonald's restaurants in greater Toronto and Montreal. Brower works with the restaurant chain to help lessen McDonald's carbon footprint.

Volvo VNR Electric Trucks, McDonald's

Martin Brower, a key distributor for McDonald's global operations, is teaming up with the prominent food service provider. This strategic partnership involves integrating of eco-friendly transportation options within Martin Brower's distribution network across multiple locations, aiming to contribute to a greener future.

This move involves ten additional Volvo VNR Electric vehicles. As reported by trucknews.com, the electric battery-powered fleet designated for transporting goods to specific McDonald's establishments in the extended Montreal and Toronto regions is set to grow.

This expansion builds upon the initial trial of a pioneering zero-emission tractor deployed in 2022 at Brower's Baie d'Urfé facility, which was instrumental in facilitating deliveries to McDonald's outlets in Montreal.

Its trial rollout consisted of a Class 8 Volvo VNR Electric tractor focused in the Montreal region. The aim was to evaluate the performance of this heavy-duty battery-electric vehicle in managing regular delivery routes and substantial cargo volumes. After the successful trial phase, McDonald's Canada and Martin Brower joined forces to implement an additional fleet of 10 Volvo VNR Electric vehicles.

As shared by Financial Post, Matthew Blackman, the managing director for Canada at Volvo Trucks North America, expressed enthusiasm about the collaborative efforts between McDonald's and their partners to reduce carbon emissions in logistics.

He highlighted the confidence in the performance and dependability of the Volvo VNR Electric, emphasizing the decision of these industry giants to expand the implementation of battery-electric vehicles is a significant endorsement of their capabilities.

The distribution plan entails assigning seven vehicles to service the extended Toronto region, with the remaining three stationed at the Montreal distribution hub in Baie-D'Urfe, where they will be deployed to cater to the greater Montreal area.

Volvo Truck-as-a-Service (TaaS)

In recent developments, Volvo Trucks North America unveiled a novel business concept named Volvo on Demand earlier this month. As reported by Electrek, this innovative Truck-as-a-Service (TaaS) model aims to support small and medium-sized truck fleets in easing the financial barriers linked with adopting battery-electric vehicles, thereby allowing them to redirect capital towards business expansion initiatives.

Building upon its electric truck deliveries since 2018, Volvo has consistently broadened its range of commercial offerings, including specialized refuse vehicles under both the Volvo and Mack Truck labels, along with the introduction of the new Mack MD Electric, which commenced production earlier this year.

The Financial Post also discussed Brower's background. Partnering with McDonald's for over six decades, Martin Brower has established itself as a trusted service provider. It began its collaboration in 1956 by supplying food and beverage items to the inaugural restaurant of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc in Des Plaines, Illinois.
