Reports have hinted that plans for the Suzuki Jimny pickup project exist.

Suzuki Jimny is still unavailable in the U.S., but the news of its hybrid and all-electric variants tickles excitement.

Hybrid and All-Electric Suzuki Jimny Pickup

Suzuki might be eyeing to build a pickup variant for its Jimny vehicle. One possible reason is its consistent popularity across the globe. Suzuki is reportedly expected to debut a hybrid and all-electric model of the SUV. Along with these new versions come a potential pickup version by 2030.

Strengthening the buzz about this latest project, CarScoops reported hints from a Suzuki official suggesting ongoing development of the Jimny pickup. A hybrid Jimny is being considered to adhere to stringent emission rules. By 2030, Suzuki wants to introduce an all-electric Jimny to Europe.

The report highlighted that when considering available powertrains, a potential mid-lifecycle update may feature a hybrid variant aimed at boosting the current gasoline engine's efficiency and performance.

Insights from Suzuki Australia's general manager suggest ongoing development of the highly awaited pickup model. In response to inquiries from CarSales, Michael Pachota hinted at the possibility of a two-door Jimny pickup, emphasizing a unique design with two front seats and an open back concept.

It is not the first time news of Suzuki Jimny pickup conversion surfaced.

Among these conversions are a turbocharged truck from Italy and a robust chassis cab from New Zealand, which have garnered attention.

While the production status of the Suzuki Jimny Sierra Pickup Style concept remains undisclosed by the automaker.

As outlined in a Jalopnik report, Suzuki is anticipated to introduce an electric version of the Jimny by 2030, part of five new battery-electric models planned for unveiling by the end of a decade. Additionally, a hybrid variant is expected to precede this launch. Amid these developments, Suzuki is contemplating the global release of a Jimny utility vehicle, potentially reviving the iconic Mighty Boy moniker.

An observation by Road & Track shared that the possibility of these vehicles reaching the United States is slim. Jimny's initial design did not cater to the U.S. market, suggesting potential adjustments for compliance with federal regulations if such a move were considered.

Furthermore, Suzuki's absence from the country's automotive dealer network in the country presents additional hurdles that may pose significant challenges to introduction.

Introducing a hybrid version of the SUV could serve as a strategic interim solution before the anticipated launch of a fully electric model, slated to debut before 2030 as part of Suzuki's five upcoming EV releases.

Suzuki's substantial investment of $1.5 billion in EV development for critical markets such as Japan, India, and Europe underscores its commitment to electrification.

Suzuki Jimny

The Suzuki Jimny has won the hearts of many because of its compact and unique appearance. According to a report from last year by Car and Driver, the previous iteration of the Jimny enjoyed significant success in various markets, including Europe and Japan, paving the way for an electrified successor.

Suzuki's strategic plan up to 2030, unveiled recently, heavily features a lineup of hybrid and electric vehicles. The official announcement did not directly mention the upcoming Jimny model, but a tantalizing glimpse at future European models strongly hints at the imminent arrival of a Jimny EV variant.
