Toyota drops its four-cylinder powertrain. Giving up on this engine was the only significant modification for the 2025 model year. This modification was made just before the Toyota GR Supra's final year of manufacture approached. By 2026, it will not be available in the market.

What Engine Does the Toyota GR Supra Have?

It's four out and six in. The Toyota GR Supra's standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine will no longer be offered. This supercar will only have the 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. Customers can choose between an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission when purchasing a 2025 Toyota GR Supra.

Autoweek reported that the latest Toyota GR Supra does not have a turbocharged I4 engine. Instead, the focus will be entirely on the more powerful I6 powertrain option.

Drivers can anticipate the 3.0-liter turbo I6, which is supplied by BMW, to produce 382 horsepower and 368 lb-ft of torque when paired with either an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission in the absence of the 2.0-liter turbo I4.

This power setup continues the tradition of rear-wheel propulsion seen in previous GR Supra iterations. The same platform and engine of the BMW Z4 and Supra are produced by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria.

Effect on Pricing, Others

The Toyota GR Supra's price increased as its four-cylinder engine has dropped. The MotorBiscuit article stated that the 2025 Toyota GR Supra is expected to have a starting price of roughly $57,345, which will cause a substantial upheaval in the pricing landscape.

This move puts the six-cylinder GR Supra in a more expensive price range and increases the pricing difference significantly with the upcoming 2025 Nissan Z, which is the GR Supra's direct rival and is anticipated to launch at a more reasonable $44,500 for its base Sport trim.

Consequently, prospective buyers in search of high-performance sports cars boasting 380 horsepower or more will face a limited selection, especially considering the substantial price difference between the upcoming GR Supra and the Nissan Z which has 400 horsepower at a significantly lower price, falling well below $12,000 compared to the GR Supra.

Sales, Toyota GR Supra

According to MotorTrend, the Supra's sales performance witnessed a notable decline in 2023, with figures dropping by approximately 46% compared to the previous year. Moreover, reports suggest a looming end to production for both the GR Supra and its BMW Z4 counterpart by March 2026, as highlighted by BMW Blog. Another factor to consider is the presence of the GR86 in the market, adding another layer to the sports car landscape.

Apart from the information provided by MotorTrend, it's important to remember that the 2025 GR Supra comes in just two trim levels: 3.0 and 3.0 Premium, both of which have Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). This sophisticated technology adjusts shock damping rates independently in Normal, Sport, and Individual modes. Depending on the mode selected, it also modifies throttle response, rev-matching features, and power steering settings to improve the driving experience.
