The EV9 and EV6 GT may have cemented a new future for Kia's financial direction and innovation.
When Kia's third EV, the EV9, went on sale in the United States market in December, it dethroned Kia's EV6 GT as its most expensive car. As such, the EV6 GT, which has a price point of $80,000, now aims to set the brand's value-oriented past aside, Automotive News reported Sunday.
This move was decided by Kia since it will now focus on targeting wealthy EV consumers like Tesla and Rivian. The automaker will also minimize the EV9's cost by transferring production to its West Point factory.
Though the assembly for the EVs started earlier in May, deliveries are expected to start in October. Kia will release the EV3 subcompact crossover in 2026. By upgrading its factory in Mexico for an EV assembly, Kia can get more competitive on selling lower-priced EVs.
Kia has presented numerous modular EVs at the CES 2024 under the name PBV, also known as Platform Beyond Vehicle. The vehicles have shown improved loading and hauling capabilities. The first vehicle to be released is the mid-size van, PV5.

Kia might be heavily focusing on its electric vehicles, but the automaker is still on track with its gasoline-powered cars.
The company has shared several images of the freshened EV6, which includes an improved 77.4 kWh battery pack, smartphone charging pad, as well as Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility. The vehicle can achieve 310 miles on a single charge.
On the other hand, the EV3 is expected to roll out in mid-2025. The EV3 is anticipated to utilize a 400-volt architecture like the EV5. As for its price, industry insiders believe that the vehicle could cost $32,000 and that a $7,500 tax credit can finalize a price of $24,500.
Apart from the EV3, EV6, EV9 and PV5, Kia is updating the EV4, Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, Niro, Soul and Seltos.
