Genesis Incorporates Hybrids to Expand Its Electrified Vehicle Lineup

Genesis plans to add hybrids to expand its electrified lineup.

According to Automotive News, the automaker has decided to adapt to consumer demand by adding hybrids to its portfolio. Initially, the automaker shared that it would transition from internal combustion to electric. 

Genesis' parent company Hyundai Motor Co. shared Wednesday that two gasoline-electric drivetrains will be introduced and that these vehicles are a next-generation version of its current hybrid system. Furthermore, it would also utilize an electric motor to fuel the car's wheels, while the motor's battery would be recharged by the combustion engine.

Jaehoon Chang, Hyundai CEO in Seoul, announced during the annual Investor Day strategy briefing that the turning point was fueled by the EV sales growth slowdown and the evolving market conditions.

Hyundai Seoul also shared that it plans to focus on the upgraded hybrid system and implement it into Hyundai-branded vehicles by January 2025. Meanwhile, 2024 reportedly saw an increase in hybrid demands from car enthusiasts.

Genesis Director of Product Planning Ash Corson shared that customers who reside in Los Angeles are interested in electric cars. However, hybrids are recommended for those residing in the middle of the country. 

Initially, Jose Muñoz, the CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, stated that the company plans to carry out hybrid production in its EV and battery manufacturing facility in Bryan County, Georgia. The plant would also build EVs for Hyundai, Genesis and Kia. It is expected to open in October.

Meanwhile, Hyundai announced Tuesday that it would expand its lineup for the 2025 Elantra. The automaker said that the 2025 Elantra would have five models, which are the SE, SEL Sport, SEL Convenience, Limited and N Line.
