BMW has issued a recall on its Electric Mini Coopers due to component faults.
Car and Driver has learned that the automaker has recalled a total of 12,535 Mini Cooper SE electric models due to flaws involving the battery system. The batteries may have been manufactured outside of standard production specifications.
Recall documents stated that a flaw inside the battery component or its high-voltage system could lead to fire risks. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shared in its documents that system defects could also lead to overheating batteries.

Apart from the risks of overheating and fire, the battery system could result in thermal issues even if the car is parked. BMW's sudden recall has affected models from 2020 to 2024.
Owners are required to deliver their vehicles to an authorized dealership that can implement a software update. These countermeasures would have to place focus on detecting malfunction through diagnostic procedures, specifically in its high-voltage system.

In August, dealers were notified by the automaker, saying that the notification was planned to roll out on Oct. 7. The affected owners would be recommended to assign a schedule with their dealers to resolve the issue, free of charge.
Furthermore, their fix would be covered by the MINI New Vehicle Limited Warranty program if the component has short-circuited before the recall.

BMW shared that flaws in the starter motors could lead to unwanted fires and electricity strain, possibly damaging vehicle parts.
