Tesla's electric Giga Train is officially operational.
The automaker's much-awaited and first-ever electric Giga Train officially debuted in Germany, with the locomotive delivering passengers from Erkner Station to Tesla Sud for free. The station is established at Tesla's manufacturing facility, southeast of Berlin, according to The Cool Down.
The train has a seating capacity of 120 and is capable of transporting 500 people. Apart from the commendable room space, the all-electric train can also store bicycles, and it features an information system that's accessible to both passengers and Tesla employees.
The transports will be based on three eight-hour shifts and around 4,500 Tesla staff members are expected to gain convenience from the locomotive. The construction of an additional stop is currently in the works.
Tesla Project Manager Theressa Eggler shared with German media outlet rbb24 that the company is satisfied with the shuttle being battery-electric. The official added that the shuttle is also a part of Tesla's mission to "accelerate the transition to renewable energies."
The NEB, also known as Niederbarnimer Eisenbahngesellschaft, shared that extra plans to switch from diesel to e-trains by the end of 2024 are ongoing.
