Thousands of Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators were thrown into a probe.

On Monday, over 781,000 Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator utility vehicles were investigated by a U.S. auto safety agency, as per Reuters. The probe focused on the vehicles' potential risk of underhood fires.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration disclosed that nine reports of fires and one injury have transpired. The agency indicated that the incidents involved 2021 to 2023 Wrangler and Gladiator SUVs and that most complaints stated that the ignition was off when the fires ignited.

Stellantis, an automaker known for manufacturing Jeeps, revealed that the company is currently cooperating with the preliminary investigation.

The automaker was contacted by the NHTSA after learning that fires have occurred at the power steering pump electrical connectors of some Wranglers and Gladiators.

Other complaints said that the fires occurred immediately after the vehicles were bought. One owner of a 2021 Jeep Wrangler in New Jersey shared that the car started to emit smoke within 10 minutes and eventually burst fire.

Another 2021 Jeep Wrangler owner in Arizona also claimed that their vehicle released smoke and caught fire after running for 1,900 miles.
