VinFast is facing a probe for issues on its lane assistance systems.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Investigation Administration (NHTSA) in the United States shared that the investigation was ignited by 14 reports from owners of VinFast models from 2023 and 2024. The probe affected a total of 3,118 vehicles from the automaker, Reuters said Friday.

According to NHTSA, the complaints indicated that the system struggled to detect lanes on the roadway. Concerns were also made about the improper steering inputs.

NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation shared that the frequency and seriousness of the issue will be looked upon in the investigation. The ODI added that the probe aims to determine if such a defect concerning safety is present in the vehicles.

In response, VinFast expressed its willingness to cooperate with the NHTSA's investigation. The automaker followed up that apart from its participation, it would closely monitor the current safety issue.

Last month, the NHTSA investigated a Tesla semi crash in California. An Office of High Safety team was deployed to look into the case, specifically on risk concerns regarding lithium-ion batteries.
