Ford is removing a safety feature from its cars to reduce cost.

The automaker has decided to remove a well-known feature in its vehicles, which was designed to help drivers park more efficiently, Unión Rayo US reported Thursday. This kind of system requires costly technology and can result in more expenses for the company.

Ford's Chief Operating Officer Kumar Galhotra said that the automaker will no longer implement its enhanced active park assist in future vehicles. The hands-free parallel parking system was once considered as solution for drivers who struggle with parking their cars.

The decision was made after internal data disclosed that the feature was barely used by car owners. Only a small percentage of drivers used the automatic system, according to Galhotra.

The move is expected to save Ford $60 per vehicle. It would also lead to savings of almost $10,000,000 each year if the volume of cars manufactured by Ford were to be considered.

Furthermore, the removal will lead Ford to direct its attention toward investing in practical technologies that drivers can benefit from when it comes to vehicle convenience and performance.
