General Motors (GM) is planning to let go a total of 1,695 workers.

Bloomberg reported Sunday that the automaker will implement the layoffs at its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas. The sudden move will start amid GM's upcoming production of the new Chevrolet Bolt.

According to the company, GM is investing around $390 million in the Fairfax Assembly plant for the vehicle's production. The temporary layoffs will be applied in order to "facilitate the installation of new tooling" until the production's resumption in 2025.

The layoffs will begin in November, when the company's Chevrolet Malibu sedan's production concludes. Analysts from Bloomberg Intelligence also shared that the budget-friendly Chevrolet Bolt will "boost" the overall electric vehicle output of General Motors.

As for its current lineup, the Fairfax plant is now developing the Chevy Malibu and Cadillac XT4 models and reportedly houses around 2,275 workers. When considering its worldwide scale, GM employs about 163,000 people.

The news comes after GM recently considered the acquisition of new batteries from China's Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL).
