BMW recently introduced the BMW M Performance center lock wheels, targeting various models. However, these aftermarket wheels are not currently accessible for customers in the United States. BMW of North America's spokesperson expressed optimism about their availability in the U.S. by 2024, indicating potential future access for American BMW enthusiasts.
No Center Lock Wheels in U.S. for 2023
As BMWBlog reported, car enthusiasts in Europe are in a treat, as the BMW M Performance Center Lock Wheels are now available for purchase at a price of approximately 12,000 euros ($13,000 using the current exchange rate). These lightweight forged wheels, considered the crown jewels of the BMW M Performance Parts lineup, have made a significant impact since their debut earlier this year on the exclusive and high-priced BMW 3.0 CSL, showcasing the essence of Center Lock Wheel technology.
These stylish and lightweight Center Lock Wheels are now expanding their presence to a broader range of mainstream M cars, including the BMW M2, BMW M3 Touring Competition with M xDrive, BMW M3 Sedan, BMW M4 Coupe, and BMW M4 Convertible. For U.S. customers eagerly awaiting their availability, BMW has expressed hope that these coveted Center Lock Wheels will become accessible in the U.S. market by 2024.
Moreover, CarBuzz reported more details about these Center Lock Wheels from BMW. The brand has expanded its M Performance parts catalog with the introduction of center-lock wheels. However, there is terrible news for Americans who enjoy cars.
A BMW USA official has stated that these racing-inspired wheels would not be offered in the US. Although they might be released in the future, American owners of BMW M2, M3, and M4 models will currently be limited to the normal wheel options and will not be able to purchase these performance wheels.

Closer Look - BMW Center Lock Wheels
BMW described this wheels as derived from the demanding world of motorsport, center lock wheels represent a pinnacle of engineering precision. Unlike traditional five-screw methods, these wheels secure themselves to the hub with a single, central screw. This connection, forged with a formidable 930 Nm of torque during installation, not only mimics the rapid wheel changes seen in professional racing but also elevates them to a level of seamless efficiency. Originating from the need for swift pit stops, center lock wheels have transcended the racetrack, offering car enthusiasts a unique and high-performance feature that embodies both speed and precision in every wheel change.
European BMW M car owners can indeed acquire the coveted center-lock wheels, albeit at a hefty price of approximately €12,000 (around $13,000). However, there's an added inconvenience for buyers - BMW does not include the necessary tool for removing these wheels, which are secured by a single large lug nut, unlike the conventional four or five lug nuts found on regular wheels.
This specialized tool, crucial for quick and efficient wheel changes often required by performance drivers on the track, comes at an undisclosed cost from BMW. Opting out of this tool means relying on specialized tire shops or BMW dealerships for wheel and tire changes, a situation that could be irksome considering the significant investment already made in the wheels. Moreover, the tool demands a substantial 685 lb-ft of torque for tightening the single lug nut, highlighting its heavy-duty nature.
