Cobalt Production Facility Opens in Yuma County, Arizona, Produces Jobs for Locals

When EVelution Energy pushes through with its plan, Yuma Country Arizona will a cobalt production facility in their town by 2025-2026. This construction will produce more job opportunities for everyone in town and nearby areas.

Solar-Powered, Carbon-Neutral Facility in Yuma

Evelution Energy will built a Cobalt Production Facility in Yuma County. The construction is expected to start next year 2024. This solar - powered , carbon - neutral facility will process cobalt sulfate. Such is utilized for electric vehicle batteries.

According to Arizona Republic, on March 6, the Yuma County Board of Supervisors granted unanimous approval for a special-use permit. This special permit lets EVelution Energy build on 138 acres in Tacna.

Arizona Commerce Authority provided more details about this facility.

This cobalt processing facility is a zero million investment. It will produce cobalt sulfate, a key EV battery material.This funding supports the US's net-zero economy and automobile electrification goal.

EV critical materials supply chain. The facility, operated by EVelution Energy, is projected to manufacture around 33,000 metric tons of EV battery-grade cobalt sulfate annually, which can support the domestic production of approximately 470,000 EVs each year.

EVelution Energy President and CEO Navaid Alam was excited about the domestic EV battery-material production facility, especially one fueled by solar energy.

Alam said this facility is vital to the US.She said it would boost infrastructure, restore jobs and technology, and reduce EV battery imports.Governor Hobbs, Senator Sinema, Senator Kelly, the Arizona Commerce Authority, the Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation, M3 Engineering, Yuma County, and the Board of Supervisors were praised by Alam.

More Jobs for Locals

The company will create 60 jobs with a .6 million annual payroll and contribute about .5 million in local and state taxes each year. The company will add 300 trucking and supplier jobs. The project is estimated to provide 1,229 jobs and million in revenue.

It's important to note that these numbers are estimates since this facility is the first of its kind in North America, according to Julie Engel, the president and CEO of Greater Yuma Economic Development Corporation.
