Toyota: Production Milestone in 2023

Toyota achieves milestones through its annual production figures, achieving a record with a global output of 9.23 million vehicles between January and November. November sales surged by 13.6%, reflecting significant demand in the U.S. and Europe.

Another report from Yahoo Finance Live shared details about this milestone. According to the video transcript, Toyota's stock is growing due to U.S. and European demand, a manufacturing milestone, the report says.

Lexus and Toyota sales are likely to exceed 10 million in 2023, a great accomplishment. November sales grew 13.6%, outstanding. Lexus and the non-EV Corolla perform well for Toyota. The company's success indicates a strong market for hybrid cars, which matches global client tastes.

Toyota mentioned that sales in North America, building on the previous month's performance, displayed a year-over-year increase. This growth was attributed to robust demand for hybrid models like the RAV4 and Corolla HEVs, alongside semiconductor shortages showing signs of improvement. Seeking Alpha shared details about this news on December 2023.

Groundbreaking November

EconoTimes reiterated this development on its December 27, 2023 report. In the final month of 2023, the manufacturer has seen strong demand in North America and Europe. Toyota's global production in November surged by 11.2% from the prior year, setting a new monthly record at 926,573 vehicles, as reported by Reuters.

This notably exceeds the 2019 full-year record of 9.05 million units. The easing chip shortage significantly contributed to increased production beyond Japan. November saw a 7.9% rise, hitting 611,656 vehicles-a remarkable achievement for that month. Domestically, production soared by 18.3%, reaching 314,917 cars.

Toyota credited its strong result to the revival of global economic activity after the COVID-19 epidemic. The automaker credited the brand's perseverance and inventiveness for this achievement.

Japanese weaver Sakichi Toyoda invented the first automatic loom, which led to Toyota's founding. He founded the Toyoda Spinning and Weaving Company in 1918.

His concept saved thread and fabric by pausing production when a loom broke, reducing errors and increasing yields. This concept, known as "jidoka," emphasized designing equipment to stop automatically, swiftly flagging problems-a fundamental aspect that persists within the contemporary Toyota Production System.

Toyota Recall: Daihatsu Safety Scandal

Before 2023 ends Toyota's Daihatsu unit had a recall alert involving some 64 models, including 22 sold under the Toyota brand. Such move was made after an investigation into a scandal found in the models identified. It was reported that the brand will halt shipments overseas and Japan.

Reports revealed that Daihatsu was under investigation after it said in April that it had rigged side-collision safety tests for over 80,000 small cars. Most of these vehicles were put in the market under the Toyota brand.

The latest information show that the scandal is much worse than originally imagined and might damage the Daihatsu's quality and safety image. Toyota stated that "fundamental reform" was necessary to revitalize Daihatsu as a company in addition to a review of its certification operations.
