The 2024 Fiat 500e makes its American comeback, presenting an unabashedly charming electric vehicle, signaling a move for forthcoming high-volume EVs from Stellantis' 14 brands. This fresh iteration of the Fiat 500e electric hatch hits the U.S. market early this year as a debutante 2024 model, tagged with a $34,095 price, inclusive of a $1,595 destination charge.

2024 Fiat 500e Arrives in the US

Positioned among the most economically accessible EVs around and tipping the scales at slightly over 3,000 pounds, it stands as one of the lighter options available. These characteristics aren't surprising given its status as a compact car, hosting a 42 kwh battery anticipated to yield a 149-mile range, as estimated by Fiat. According to Motor Authority, a singular electric motor upfront churns out a maximum of 118 hp, ample for a 0-60 mph sprint in about 8.5 seconds.

Its specifications suggest a better fit for urban landscapes. While Fiat hasn't disclosed specific availability, indications suggest a broader market reach compared to its predecessor, previously limited primarily as a compliance vehicle. In addition to a return, the 2024 Fiat 500e may expand the brand's availability throughout states.

Regarding charging, the 500e's battery facilitates rates of up to 85 kw. At this capacity, Fiat claims it can add 31 miles of range in five minutes, while reaching 0-80% charge requires 35 minutes. The new 500e boasts a slightly larger build compared to its forerunner, extending about 2.4 inches in both length and width.

Additionally, the wheelbase has expanded by 0.8 inches, promising augmented cabin space. Accommodating four occupants, the vehicle features a 7.0-inch digital gauge cluster and a 10.3-inch infotainment screen up front.

The infotainment system, Stellantis' Uconnect, offers support for wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon's Alexa voice assistant, and includes a wireless phone charger.

A drive mode selector alters the car's performance across three modes: Normal, Range, and Sherpa. The Range mode heightens regenerative braking for one-pedal driving, while the Sherpa mode prioritizes efficiency by capping the top speed at 50 mph, deactivating air conditioning, and employing other measures.

Fiat's Latest Model's Presence, A Major Step

According to Motor Trend's findings, the existing Fiat 500e premiered in Europe towards the end of 2020, implying it will have been in operation for several years before its U.S. release in early 2024, with pre-orders available six months ahead of the launch.

By that time, decisions will have been made by executives regarding the potential configurations of the city car as a coupe, convertible, or both. Additionally, clearer plans for introducing variations like the performance-oriented Abarth or the upscale Gucci models will likely be outlined.

Fiat brand CEO Olivier Franco asserts, regarding the 500's reintroduction to the United States, confirmed through the showcase of Fiat 500e concepts at the 2022 Los Angeles Auto Show, that it's a deliberate choice rather than a necessity. However, the upcoming 2024 500e won't be marketed as an entry-level or compliance vehicle.

Expressing confidence, Olivier states, they emphasize a departure from price reliance, emphasizing that demand will be the primary driver for sales. They anticipate a high level of interest, potentially leading to a shortage of supply due to enthusiastic demand.

Positioned as an additional vehicle in someone's fleet, the spirited commuter, boasting 162 lb-ft of torque, approximately 150 miles of range, and the ability to gain 30 miles in five minutes from an 85-kW fast charger, suits daily tasks effectively.

At its launch, the focus will primarily target specific urban zones. While it won't be available nationwide, its accessibility won't be restricted solely to states adhering to the ZEV program.
