Yet, Kia's Modular EV Van Lineup disrupts this norm, debuting with the PV5 and hinting at potential future additions like the PV7 and PV1 derivative within the Platform Beyond Vehicle electric vehicle family.

Kia's "life modules"-adaptable upper body components with electromechanical and mechanical connections for fast and safe attachment-are its innovation.

Kia's debut into the commercial van industry with three electric cargo carriers shows this paradigm change. Scheduled for production initiation in South Korea by 2025, the PV5 will offer a diverse range of bodies, catering from cargo hauling to potential usage as a robotaxi.

Kia's foray into the commercial EV Lineup endeavors to disrupt the dominion long held by Ford, Chevrolet, and Ram.

MotorTrend reported about this development from Kia. The auto manufacturer commits to numerous shared features across the Commercial EV Lineup, such as a flexible rail-and-cabinet framework facilitating effortless component exchanges within the broader Kia Modular EV Van Lineup.

They also pledge a comprehensive software environment enabling fleet managers to engage with the entire PBV fleet. This system monitors various aspects, including routes and delivery specifics, integrating real-time data and AI. Kia's focus notably hones in on ride-hailing and self-driving taxi sectors within the CES 2024 landscape.

While sharing a common chassis, every PV5 model fulfills a distinct role. The PV5 Basic showcases expansive double doors and accommodates three rows of seating, with depictions illustrating seats that fold upwards, creating space for wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

In contrast, the van variant prioritizes cargo conveyance, offering sufficient room for an adult to stand upright within. Elevating this concept, the High Roof iteration enhances headspace significantly, transforming the cabin into a mobile office equipped with a desk area and a foldable steering wheel that transforms into a lamp.

Kia's PV5 lineup includes the Robotaxi, set to operate as a mobility service by Motional, a venture involving Hyundai Motor Group and Aptiv. It's distinguished by roof-mounted sensors and a bumper screen for messaging.

The Chassis Cab variant is customizable for businesses. Kia wants to add the PV7, a larger van with more internal capacity and range.

The PV1, the smallest in the lineup, prioritizes nimble logistics, utilizing driving modules for maneuvering in tight spaces. A comprehensive rail system facilitates customization and seamless goods transfer between vans.
