The 2024 Toyota GR86 is a tempting affordable sports coupe. Geared for the driver, its interior details and the seamless balance between ride and handling cater to driving enthusiasts. However, its emphasis on performance comes at the cost of cargo capacity and passenger accommodation. In a market dominated by crossovers and SUVs, vehicles like the GR86 stand distinctively scarce.

2024 Toyota GR86: Great Option for Sports Car Fans

Boasting a 228-horsepower flat-four engine, it presents an engaging drive, amplified further by its standard six-speed manual gearbox, steering clear of the less favored six-speed automatic option. Although the rear seats aren't suitable for passengers, they supplement the trunk space, making it practical for cargo. Praised for its nimble steering and adept handling, the GR86 secured a coveted spot on the 2024 10Best Cars list, offering driving excitement at an affordable price point.

As shared on Car and Driver, this year Toyota introduces the Trueno Edition to its GR86 line, paying homage to the AE86 Corolla popularized by Initial D. This special edition includes performance enhancements like Sachs dampers and Brembo brakes, with only 860 units allocated for the U.S. market-a clever nod to its heritage.

These upgrades, available in the Trueno Edition, also extend to the entire GR86 lineup for the year. The option for Brembo brake calipers and larger rotors becomes accessible for GR86s with 18-inch wheels through dealerships. Moreover, the manual GR86 now incorporates adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automatic emergency braking as added features.

Pricing, Review for 2024 Toyota GR86

The anticipated cost range for the 2024 Toyota GR86 spans from approximately $30,000 at its base level to $38,000 for higher trims, factoring in various options and configurations. Moreover, the GR86 embodies a stripped-down sports car experience in an excellent manner.

As reviewed by Edmunds, Toyota GR86 delivers enjoyable driving for both beginners and experienced drivers while maintaining an affordable price and a degree of practicality. Though it may exhibit occasional stiffness and noise, these drawbacks are manageable compared to the car's numerous exceptional qualities.

The 2024 GR86 boasts enjoyable handling suitable for all driving levels, a driver-centric interior, a responsive six-speed manual transmission, and commendable power output; however, its rear seats are more apt for storage, it experiences high interior noise levels, and occasional jittery ride quality.

Notably, it introduces a Performance package with enhanced brakes and suspension, a limited-run Trueno Edition trim, standard driver assist features across all versions, being part of the second-generation GR86 lineup launched in 2022.

According to US News, the 2024 Toyota GR86 holds the second position within the Sports Cars category, backed by an 8.4 out of 10 rating. The key changes for the Toyota GR86 in recent years include the debut of the Trueno Edition in 2024 alongside the option for a Performance package, along with the inclusion of various active-safety features in manual-transmission models.

Another is the introduction of the 10th Anniversary Special Edition trim in 2023; a complete redesign and rebranding from Toyota 86 to GR86 in 2022, bringing forth a revamped chassis, a more potent engine, and an array of newly available driver-assistance features; no model offered in 2021; and in 2020, the standardization of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with the introduction of the Hakone Edition.
