Hyundai Motor's visionary venture into aerial mobility has once again captivated audiences at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas with their cutting-edge flying car concept, the Supernal S-A2.

Supernal, Hyundai Motor Presents the Future

Revealing their latest innovation, Hyundai's aerospace division, Supernal, showcased the remarkable S-A2 electric flying car, drawing tremendous applause and cheers from the gathered crowd at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Supernal S-A2, making its debut at CES, introduced a full-scale vertiport, stunning onlookers.

The Supernal S-A2, showcased at CES, is quite a marvel. The electric flying car can carry a pilot and four passengers and fly 120 mph at 1500 feet, covering 20 to 40 miles per trip. It's an evolution from the S-A1 model they introduced back in CES 2020, showing how serious Hyundai is about pushing eVTOL technology forward and changing how we get around.

Hyundai, working hand in hand with Supernal, is dead set on leading the charge in advanced air mobility. Even though they haven't given us a delivery date yet, the Supernal S-A2 is a big symbol of how Hyundai is trailblazing in the world of flying cars.

Reports stated that the Supernal-designed Hyundai Motor's flying car, the S-A2, is tailored for urban settings, addressing the challenge of lengthy ground travel for short distances. Hyundai ensures the S-A2's minimal disruption to residents with rotors generating noise levels akin to a dishwasher-only 65 dB during takeoff and 45 dB while cruising.

Furthermore, Supernal credits Hyundai with developing the S-A2's design, including the cabin's four passenger seats separated from the pilot's seat. Safety takes precedence, with all seats crafted from top-tier aviation-grade materials designed to absorb energy effectively.

More about Supernal

As shared in Korea JoongAng Daily, Shin Jai-won, CEO of Supernal, emphasized the resolute dedication to their vision during CES 2024, asserting the commitment to a safe, efficient design for Hyundai Motor's flying car, the S-A2.

He said their 600-person team, Hyundai Motor Group's technical knowledge, and global aviation suppliers were collaborating to change aviation. The S-A2 boasts eight tilting rotors, an innovative configuration where four tilt upward and the rest downward during takeoff and landing-an optimal method for advanced air mobility (AAM) operations, as per Supernal's claim.

Noise management is a priority, with the aircraft capped at 70 decibels, matching the noise output of typical dishwashers.

Flexibility reigns within the passenger compartment, allowing the transformation of four seats into two larger premium seats or complete reconfiguration for cargo transport. Supernal targets prototype testing by year-end, eyeing commercialization in 2028.

Supernal's chief technology officer, Ben Diachun, lauds the S-A2 as a pioneer in utilizing upcoming electric powertrain advancements, marking the start of a new era in aviation.
